He'd get my vote if he ran as a Democrat, unless he had a lot of godawful positions. And I think he will be getting my vote.

Nobody is trying to coerce you into doing anything. It was a simple question, one that implied that Clark would stand up to scrutiny since he'd be the candidate in this hypothetical situation.

I wonder how effective it might be to do a little side-by-side comparison of his military background to Bush or Cheney's military background. It would be like this:
Bush/Cheney:
...
...
...
...
...
Clark:
...
...
...
...
...
...
...
...
...
...
...
...
...
...
...
...
...
...
... Think of how relatively little that would cost and how effective it might be.

probably some threads I just shouldn't even bother to read.
That said, I do not understand why anyone would support a non-candidate, whose political leanings are unknown.
I seem to recall prior to 2000 a large numer of liberals being giddy for Colin Powell to run for Pres. I didn't understand that either.

Methinks you're jumping the gun a bit here. Only lunatics like us are paying attention to the race right now. It is way early. I see nothing wrong with feting a potential candidate at this point. We did it for all of the other ones.

say "we" did it for all of the other ones.
"You" may have; "I" didn't. I was an early Dean supporter after he announced because I liked the fiery speeches. I changed my support to Kucinich after he decalred his candidacy, because I prefer his positions to those of Dr Dean.
I can agree that it is fine to tout a potential candidate; talk up their potential stengths, etc. but nothing in the original post lists any reason to vote for Clark; therefore this is not a tout thread, but merely wishful thinking, bordering, perhaps on delusion, given that he has neither declared himself a candidate, nor even a Democrat.
edited to add: the original poster states she/he doesn't know Clark's positions on issues, but thinks he will get their vote anyway. To me, that's just silly.

except calling it 'delusion.' That's a wee bit extreme. We don't really know what Clark is about yet, hence the speculation. Perhaps this person was seeking information? You have yet to provide any proof that the poster is delusional, except to state the obvious about Clark's status as a candidate and a perty member. There are millions and millions and millions of people in America who cleave to neither party. Do you exculde them from your calculations as well?

with a 'perhaps' (though I missed a comma after). The only obvious seeking in the original post is to determine how many people would vote for a non-declared candidate.
You lost me with "Do you exculde them from your calculations as well?" I'm not calculating anything; just stated my opinion that I find supporting non-candidates to be pointless. I did admit my original phrasing of that sentiment was badly done.

I think he's the most in tune with what I want out of the Democratic party. I mean I understand that some of that is his ability to not get into detail right now because he isn't running, and maybe I'm reading more into his statements than are there. Still if he's in I'll voulenteer and maybe give some cash to his campaign. I'd like to read his book, but my book store didn't have it last time I checked. I assume if he runs, they'll get a copy or so more in stock.

Clark's an interesting guy but I don't think he has any chance of winning the Democratic nomination or (if he somehow squeeked through) the presidency. He's a political general, someone who made it to the top of the Pentagon by playing the game well (as opposed to, say, leading men in combat). And what's worse is he comes off as this. If he ran I think he'd confuse a lot of people (who would be expecting some tough-talking Norman Schwarzkopf). Don't say this to knock the guy, obviously he's accomplished a lot, but he doesn't have the stature (yet?) to run for president. If he ran in state primaries he'd get 3% (ie. what people like Bob Graham, Dennis Kuscinich, and Carol Mosley-Braun are going to get).

It's hard to find a General with anything like the kind of experience Eisenhower had these days, unless his name is Colin Powell. Political Generals have historically done well for themselves since the Civil War.

Going to a meet up on the 4th in Reno, will let you know how it turns out and for all you rabid anti not your choice candidate I will clearly post what the subject matter is so that you don't have to waste your time checking out the post.
Post's that attack other candidates with so much disdain and anger with a caption of your prefered candidate does nothing to help that candidate.
My choice for the nomination would be Clark, I hope he runs, but if he does not I will volunteer for who ever the candidate is.
