I brought this company up the other day. Everybody thinks it was Clear Channel that instituted the company-wide ban on the Dixie Chicks after the Bush thing, but it wasn't, it was Cumulus. Some Clear Channel stations made that decision independently, but it was an actual policy handed down from a vice president at Cumulus.
Cumulus was, last I knew, third largest in the nation behind CC and Infinity. They concentrate on second and third-tier markets where they feel they get less competition for advertising from television and a big city newspaper. They're headquarterd here in Atlanta and are owned by the Dickey brothers. They also have an independent concerns called Dickey Broadcasting and Dickey Publishing.
I was
on their Atlanta station (the only big market one) awhile back.
