The Corporate Media has been promoting Dean a lot lately

Any ideas why AOLTimeWarner, GE, and Newscorp have been heavily promoting Dean, putting his face on magazines, giving him air time, and promoting him as a front runner? Just as Bush is getting hammered with scandals, the corporate media is promoting Dean as a "moderate to liberal" alternative to Bush.

It seems to me that corporate America would be just as happy with Dean as they are with Bush. Wonder why?

I wish more repubs had taken the bait. A) we wouldn't have had th same election (teh florida debacle) and B) If we were stuck with McCain in some respects it wouldn't have been as bad as it is now. (Don't get me wrong - I enjoyed watching McCain scare these guys in the primary - but I would never have supported him for president).

I think some of the media is cliquish (the follow each other) and very, very shallow. But I don't think their temporary obsessions are a harbinger of good, or a portend of bad.

Do you mean that we shouldn't support anyone that gets much media coverage? Because I think Dean's media coverage began with his record breaking internet support and fundraising totes.

So maybe the reason the media has picked up on him is because of his growing popularity.

If that's true, and then enough of us all decided to support someone else who couldn't get any coverage, they would become newsmakers, too.

Would we have to change candidates again until we found someone who just can't get enough support to get any media attention?

So far, Dean hasn't taken a public stance against *any* corporate position. Even corporations like GE and Boeing and Capcities are "for" rights - so far it's all talk, and no action.

Kucinich has been very clear on the issues, and Dean and Kerry have done their best to hush everything up.

Even Gephardt supports a minimum wage.

When the Republicans want someone to run they run a bunch of adds in favor of the adversary. The point being that Dean is not a real adversary, but with the media they can trick the people and more important the one that will most likely loose in this case Dean to make him think he's more powerful then he is.


They the Republican media machine did the same thing with Gore. Gore had the courage and insight to see thru the lies and did not swallow the bait. Remember Murdoch even put Gore on Saturday Night live, because they knew Gore would never be able to win. They were hoping they would have to face Gore in 2004.

The real person the Republicans are not sleeping over is General Wesley Clark.

There are 2 routes to this media hype for Dean.

Yes it is very possible that corporate cronies are promoting Dean because they think he is weak and will lose against Bush if he gets the nom. But if that were so why not promote Liberman or Mosley-Braun.

Another reason that contradicts the above reason is that corporate thugs wouldn't mind if Dean wins. But why not just keep Bush in office and ignore Dean. Why not hype Liberman?

The logical reason imo is because Dean is showing signs of surging to be the final Dem canidate. If anyone knows why the primary race is so vital in New Hampshire and Iowa can see this. Once a person begins to win the early state the media goes ga-ga for that "front runner" for ratings because they are clearly getting more attention and look like the safe bet. In 00' Bradley would of lost so bad against Bush, but the media still ignored the pants off him because he polled so low.

$$$ and viewers sometimes is favored above the head henchmen's political yearnings.

He is going after Bush, getting amazing support, and he's an underdog.

The media loves this kind of stuff.

The media are whores... they go for what makes them the most money.

Dean's story is profitable. If for no other reason that the simple economic fact that those massive numbers of people willing to send money to Dean are probably likely to spend money on that issue of Time or Newsweek if they have stuff on Dean.
