I saw a propaganda piece that he did in the 60's about the "dangers" of marijuana that fit in perfectly with his republican viewpoint.

Cher said he wasn't conservative when she was with him.
I love Cher - she's extremely liberal.

| 4. I always figured it was Cher's coming-put that tipped him.. |
|
I always figured that, back when he was just a producer (the "money" guy), he was probably a Republican-leaning figure of some sort (just because he was "the money guy").
But I suspect that when he got involved with Cher but she then came out as a lesbian, that tipped him into the usual arch Right-Wing, "get-even-with-all-those-b****es!" delerium.

...who made big when he hooked up Cher. And he was one of those people who thought things were OK when HE did them, but afterwards things just went "too far".
That, and the need for a job once "Love Boat" and "Fantasy Island" were cancelled, thus reducing the supply of gigs for has-been celebrities...

| 5. Uh, not entirely true..... |

he was a hustler, but always aiming big. He wrote a few songs before he ever hooked up with Cher. He co-wrote "Needles and Pins". He got involved in politics when he opened his restaurant. For more info: http://entertainment.msn.com/artist/?artist=190035

| 9. He was a producer and sessions musician with Phil Spector |
|
when Spector was at the top of his game. If I remember correctly, Cher was a nobody when she met him; not vice-versa.
Also, to reply to something I've seen in this thread, I haven't seen where Cher 'came out' as a lesbian. I know their daughter did, but Cher has a long string of men in her wake.

My father told me that Sonny and Cher supported Senator Robert Kennedy for President in '68. Don't know what made Sonny sell out.
