| I'm SICK of the Kobe coverage! |
|
You'd think this was the most important story in America...jeez, during lunch it was nothing but Kobe with Wolfie on CNN. So I sent him an email... Enough Kobe already! Another high-profile athlete is in legal troubles...as if that's never happened before. It would be nice if the media would devote the time to the Kobe story that it deserves (none), and instead spend time investigating issues that are critical to this country. A perfect example is electronic voting - apparently no one cares that these machines have no verifiable paper trail, are open to vote fraud, or that the companies that provide them are owned by people with serious conflicts of interest. Just ask ES&S.
I would like to see CNN do an indepth profile of the voting process, and focus on the potential for corruption that electronic voting machines introduce. Our democracy is at stake, and not because Kobe is in trouble.

it's terrible that our society is so dumbed-down that this intrigues everyone to this extent. A man who's only contribution to society is throwing a basketball gets millions of dollars and celebrity treatment, while a teacher who actually makes a difference in children's lives, their future, is underpaid, overworked and un-noticed. Our society's priorities are sincerely fupped-duck.

You can be anywhere in America and not have to know much more than what's up with Kobe...makes it convenient to talk to the mother-in-law in Indiana. It also lets producers go on vacation.
I personally think news has lowered itself to base levels of entertainment and really needs The Fab Five to do a makeover. :-)

He is an athelete and he probably thought himself to be above the law. From what I've heard it seems like he is guilty.
What I hate is how this woman is being demonized.

There has been no evidence proffered.
No sworn statements released.
No cross examination.
Call me old fashioned but I like to see the evidence before I talk about throwing somebody in the pokey.
It's the American way.

until the trial. Anything can be said prior to a trial but not all of it is relevent to whether a rape occurred or not which is the issue.
The bad thing about people posting their inclination to his guilt or not, is that it does give rise to the notion that getting a fair trial is difficult of a jury pool is poisoned by innuendo.
This still remotely resembles the America where I grew up. The media by reporting unsubstantiated rumors poisons the jury pool. It is difficult even if a judge says "forget you heard that" to forget you heard that.
There used to be standards in journalism. They existed for a reason. Tabloid journalism has infected POLITICS as well.
BTW, by the same token, stories released about the alleged victim also infect the jury pool which has ALWAYS been my objection to those stories as well.

He can't keep his thing in his pants. With a wife like that, too, what a total kneebiter.
Just because you design stupid looking sneakers and get paid millions to put a damn ball through a hoop doesn't make you a saint or an icon.
I liked Larry Bird, but I'm not going to found a goddamn religion over it.

It is funny how the most obscenely trumpeted pseudo-trials have both been black celebrities on white women.
Imperial Amerika is currently a slightly ugly place that is rushing to give birth to the Ultimate Ugliness some decades from now (if we're lucky...it could be much sooner)

Bush is on Vacation and doesn't want to be bothered by anything to do with being the leader of the free world.
Between Koby and California, Bush can actually be free from criticism.
Bush wants August to be free from his screw-ups. Maybe by then, the American People will forget.

and David Robinson are the only two NBA players ever who had morals, or at least the only ones I can think of right now. Most NBA players cheat on their wives - I saw this show once on ESPN where they interviewed this former 76er and he was talking about how there are groupies at every stop.

1. It sends a message to the CORPORATISTS.
2. You aren't helping to pay for the sheeping of America.
3. You retain some sanity.
4. C-Span is crucial -- which you can get by streaming.
5. Believe me -- you will not miss a thing (except the Daily Show - can you get that by streaming?). I feel perfectly apprised of the goings on in the world with my few network channels - which I rarely consult anyhow.
6. With the money you save every month -- give it to a cause you believe in! A campaign, to a needy family who has been cut out of social services ($50 a month pays a family's water bill, ya know), whatever. Or save the money for a plane ticket so you can go to D.C. to march in protest...... There are a million things you can do with an extra $600 a year. Ask George Bush -- $400 more a year can save a country! **rolling eyes**
7. No Kobe in your life! Or the next hot non-story to drive the masses to not care about anything.
Cancel the cable.....everyone..just cancel it. Save yourself..... :-)
