| Cancelled elections in Iraq? |
|
I could swear that I read an article about 2 weeks ago which quoted US officials as saying they plan to simply install a "Prime Minister" rather than hold any sort of elections.
I can't seem to find the article now, but assuming that's true, it would be a pretty obvious explanation for the sudden uprisings we're seeing in Iraq.
I haven't heard it mentioned on any major news outlets, so I'm wondering if I'm remembering it correctly. Does anyone else have that article bookmarked?

to have elections now. They are just, as far as I know, literally going to "install" the new leader, probably Ahmed Chalabi. The Shiites were insisting on elections, but the CPA and US were saying it was too soon, they didn't have voter rolls, etc., and the Shiites finally gave in. I'll be surprised if there is an election there during my lifetime.
