| Poll question: What do you do (Industry) for money/survival/job? |
|
I'm just curious as to what sort of creatures frolic in the DU forrest.
Please vote in the Poll. Also any comments about what you do. Whether you like it. If you get paid enough. And if you plan on changing anytime soon, would be appreciated.
I'll start: City Planner. Love the job. Decent money. Decent benefits. Autonomy.
Many of these catagories overlap so just choose the one most appropriate.

Good hours, fairly decent pay, liberal leave policy, pretty good benefit package. Been here 11 years - hard to leave, although I'm not enamored of my current position.

Currently, Legal Research for an Insurance company. Yech. But it helps to keep my 'legal beagle' instincts tuned & is footing 75% of my tuition.
Working on my MA in Nonprofit Mgmt - I plan to start up my own local 'Legal Services' type of referral service for the low income population, especially women.

Everyone who has a govt job says the pay sucks but the benefits are good. Actually I think the benefits have gone down hill. Luckily I have a husband who works for a union and all our health care is paid for.
I love my job!

| 9. Our benefits HAVE decreased - immensely! |
|
Granted my benefits don't cost me anything, being single. But co-pays and other fees have gone through the roof. Hell, hospitalization used to be free, now we have a $100/day charge up to 5 days. Every time the economy goes into the take, our benefits get cut, and we never recover when times get better.
At least I'm employed, and have SOME coverage. I'm lucky.

The IRS.
I'm going back to school to be a Radiologic Technologist (X-Ray Tech). A big shortage. Quickly-increasing salaries. Job security - it can't be outsourced to India.
And this is before the Boomers begin to retire..

Where ya going to school? ACC?
I've thought about doing that myself. I have a friend who does contract work and travels around the country. He's well into 6 figures. If the state lays me off, I might be a classmate of yours. :-)

ACC! My first semester is costing me about $650, plus books. Classes this semester will only be on Mondays and Wednesdays - leaving me plenty of time to study.
I'm considering travelling when I graduate so that I can save-up for a house and retirement.

Typically those companies want someone with experience.
By the way, coming to the anti-redistricting rally tomorrow? A bunch of us are going! :hi:

And yeah, I've read all over the web about how the agencies want one year. Fine by me!
When and where is the rally? I've got nothing going on..

Love the job, money is ok, hours erratic but good, decent benefits. I have to make sure that my plan works, but I get to make the plan. I like the freedom.

I retired last year and have been planning for my retirement (financially) for the past 20 years. My wife works for NASA and I maintain the prettiest one acre in South Mississippi. I will eventually find employment which involves little responsibility on my part, I've been there, done that, just to keep my sanity. So in the meantime I count all the bees in the hive, chase all the clouds from the sky.

I'd probably drink myself to death. Or at the very least melt my brain on crap TV.
Regular Mental/Physical activity is a must IMO.
