Missing Nightline?

Many years ago, when cable just started, if a program was not being shown by the local affiliate, the cable company would feed the program from another affiliate, miles away, in one of its "public access" channels.

I wonder whether cable companies, or even citizens in a Sinclair market can get the same result.
