Yesterday, California elections officials, as they have done for every single election for years and years, conducted a "alphabet lottery" to determine the order in which candidates' names will appear in the upcoming recall ballot. Both parties have supported this measure, with former Gov. Pete Wilson repeatedly signing legislation affirming its continued use.
Rush Limbaugh has this posted on his website:
"The Democrats probably do have, actually, a strategy now. The strategy out there probably is for the U.S. Ninth Circus Court of Appeals, when this is all over. Simply go to your buds on the court and say it wasn't fair. They'll probably go straight to this alphabet that they've come up with out there. On Monday, state election officials randomly drew letters to determine the order of the October 7th recall ballot which, by the time it is finalized, could have nearly 250 candidates on there. They thought that it would be unfair to use conventional alphabetical order, so they had a lottery."
"This liberal fairness protocol will be the cause of a whole bunch of voter confusion, which the liberals will then tout as the reason to take legal action if Davis loses, maybe going to the U.S. Ninth Circus Court of Appeals."
(end quotes)
He also said something to the effect that voters are "used to looking at candidates in alphabetical order." Not in California, not under any circumstances for gubernatorial candidates. Election Code Sec. 13112, which mandates the alphabet lottery, has been in effect for a long time.
The crassness and idiocy of Limbaugh's ravings is amazing...
