An interesting little dialog with a war veteran

I was in my hometown over the weekend and made a visit to a local Veterans of Foreign Wars club. I met a guy who was in Korea and he had one glass eye (it was lost during combat). He told me a story about his brother (a Congressional Medal of Honor recipient) who has a street named after him in my hometown. His stories were captivating. He is clearly pro-Kerry and anti-war and questioned our decisions in Iraq and said we have no business being over there. I went in there thinking I would be the only veteran who would question *'s decisions, but I came out of there feeling great having one of these Southern War Veterans sharing my views on this administration (if you could call it that).

1. Veterans Aren't All Hawks

Veterans are surprisingly independent in their thinking. The stereotype of old veterans is paunchy old dudes who support Bush without question. That's just not the case.

I'm an 11-bravo Vietnam vet and I'm a lot farther to the left than many non-vets. And I'm not all that exceptional.

3. True, but

this happened in North Carolina. For whatever reason, I haven't met that many Southern War Veterans that were against Bush in the last few years.

There are many of us who cannot express our gratitude in words, and I for one, do not think that anything I can say would be sufficient. But thank you for all that you have done.

My dad's a vet and he says he will be voting for Kerry.
