Harmann alludes to an even WORSE empire, the World Trade Organization. The global rule of corporate empires and the dissolusion of that nation-state in the wake of it's powers.

and I am afraid that unless something is done by some earth shattering event, a national revolution of some sort, which is unlikely, we will continue to pursue empire rather than democracy because we are the bloviator richest and the most powerful and can wreak havoc on anyone we please and--the saddest -part--get away with it--we simply are run by corporations, not by the consitution. The recent invasion of Iraq by a stupid asshole who cannot even promounce words correctely, is proof of that.
This is not a democracy, much as we might like to think so. We do not have a "peace" candidate running, do we? I have not seen one around asking for my vote.
Empire has become an American habit--and is expected from our leaders--we are indeed shallow as a people.
