| RFK Memorial - What would have happened if RFK lived? |
|
I would like to think he would have won the Presidency, thus bypassing the Nixon era, and getting us out of Nam earlier. I saw a lot of RFK in Howard Dean. What changes would RFK have made had he lived and was elected?
|
I thought so.

We start off with no Watergate-the dysfunctional Presidency of Richard Nixon would not have happened-RFK would have beat him hands down-next-out of Vietnam earlier-how many less names on the stone memorial I don't know-my guess alot-those 2 factors would have changed American life for the better-also civil rights-blacks and Latinos and Native Americans would have had a voice earlier in the White House-what effect hard to know-Tragic and complex person who changed much as he grew older (only 42 when gunned down). What a difference from the frat boy in chief that now sits in JFK's old Office

I swear to God I was thinking the exact same thing. No Nixon, no Watergate, we could go on and on. I finally concluded that we could do that about everything. I'm thinking that our country for some reason had/has to get to the really dark place that it is currently and then we'll have a kind of enlightening in almost an instant (but that's been brewing in many of us for these past 3 1/2 years. I had my boss tell me (my boss recently declared himself and ex-Republican, is sickened by the war in Iraq and thinks * is a complete idiot) that he listened to Clinton's speech the other day and he wish he could run again.

| 5. Check out this RFK memorial |

It's a hiphop tribute that loads when you open the page. Follow the lyrics and pictures, it tells quite a story. By Jamey Hecht, NYC scholar and managing editor of From the Wilderness: http://www.jameyhecht.com/RobertFKennedy.html

| 6. I think he be alot like Clinton...but tougher... |
|
...and I also think the right wing (certainly in existance at the time) would have hounded him even more than they did Clinton. Ironically, we may have seen such a backlash, that Reagan may have been elected in '76 (as a new Goldwater)...just musing. There is a book of RFK thoughts (and quotes from others) called "Make Gentle The Life Of This World" out there, collected by his son Maxwell Taylor Kennedy.
