What separates the minor celebrity or cult figure from a widely recognized cultural icon is not their ability to project, but their willingness to be projected *upon.*
Elvis and Marilyn and Diana not only projected certain qualities, they allowed us to project upon them what we wanted to. And so they surpassed the realm of stardom and became bonafied icons.
Ronald Reagan did much the same. Not just for those who worshipped him, but for those who despised him and his policies, both as President and Governor of California. Reagan allowed his critics to rail all they wanted, and continued to pursue his agenda as if we didn't exist. Allowing us the luxury to say we were right about him. Allowing those who approved of his leadership to say they were right about him, too.
These were also the qualities that made him an extremely effective leader for those who opposed liberalism.
If Ronnie's spirit had conciousness, does anyone really think it would give a damn about any negative things being said about him now?
The left needs more leaders like Ronald Reagan. More leaders who aren't going to bend over backwards to the pollsters and those who don't fear being disliked.

is someone like Reagan: Someone who puts forward policies with ruthless optimism and enthusiasm, someone whom many can connect to, someone who will surround himself with people who will get it done come hell or high water.
What we have now is a Left that spends too much time chewing on people who agree with them.

Who could it be? The minute you get someone on the left to push the programs we want, even if he's charismatic, the DLC goes after them. We don't have the discipline to get a Reagan.

There are very few true leaders that don't take unpopular stands, and too many that prefer to pander. It isn't just the left that needs leaders like that...

Won't ALLOW a liberal who acts liberal and passes liberal legislation into the executive branch. They can be as liberal as they want, speak their minds, and still get Deaned or even Gored (or RFK'ed or MLK'ed or JFK'ed or.....) by the corporate-controlled media machine.
The energy industry tycoons who run things won't let a true liberal attain any real power, because their profit margin will be threatened. Aforementioned liberal leader can be as beloved as Jesus and still be assassinated by the henchmen of the honchos in the boardrooms.
Call me paranoid all you want, but first compile a list for me of all the conservative politicians/activists/leaders who have died under mysterious, untimely circumstances; and all the liberal ones.....hmmmm, that's a pretty long list on the liberal side.....but, and this is the strange part.....I don't see a single goddamn name in the conservative column.......hmmmmmm. Could it be that republicans best serve the corporate beast?
It's not a government/electoral thing, it's strictly business. The real liberals don't fear being disliked, they fear being killed.
American super-sized corporate capatalism is out of control.
