John Kerry, for example, announced he would stop campaigning while others asked
"had he been campaigning?", given his low profile media presence of late.
Progressives have to ask what their strategy is now. Fulminating in righteousness may feel good but who is listening, and what is the effect? An American right that believes in polarization and marginalizaton of its critics couldn't be happier then when it can attack critics for peeing on the flag or the grave of a "Great Man."
IT'S THE MEDIA, STUPID
What's really disgusting here is not Reagan per se but the way he is being lionized.
The media is the problem, not the predictable exploitation of his "legacy." Sadly, many of the critics seem content to ignore that and focus instead on recycling old arguments about the damage he did that they did not at the time have the power to stop.
Being right is not enough; it rarely is. Remember what happened to Malcolm X when he said "the chickens have come home to roost" commenting on violence begetting violence after JFK was assassinated, a comment that outraged public opinion and gained him his own assassin's bullet?
