| Poll question: Okay, let's compromise: What state should we rename in honor of Reagan? |
|
Edited on Wed Jun-09-04 08:36 AM by RatTerrier
Since the neocon goons want to put him on everything now before the body is even planted, I say we compromise. Why don't we name a state after him?
(note: A new state could be created for him from an existing territory)
Here are the choices:

...and erect a library there that will store all of the ethnic, racist and off-color jokes that Ronald Reagan liked to tell.

| 9. California, of course. The whole state. |
|
Or it could be split--half could be named for that other California President--Richard Nixon.
Of course, if the Consitution can be amended in time, California might give us President Schwarzenegger, too!

Half the shit in the SW part of Ohio already is named after him. They actually named a stretch of highway down in Cinci after him right after he left office -- couldn't even wait for him to move his stuff out of the White House. I'd say let 'em have Cincinnati, but there are some DUers down there who'd probably object to it, even though I bet within five years everything down there will be named after him anyway. Shit, they can take Hamilton's name off the county Cincinnati sits in -- and well they might!

You can arrive at the Reagan National Airport and visit the Reagan Office Building. Soon they'll rename the Pentagon the Reaganon.

| 20. The funniest thing about the airport, though ... |
|
Is that the minority cabbies, civil service workers, etc. still call it 'Washington National.' Or, at least, they did a couple of years ago when I flew in there -- the cabbie actually gave us a puzzled look when Mr. Nownow said something about the Reagan Airport. He and the cabbie stared at each other for two or three breaths, then Mr. Nownow smiled and said, 'you know -- Washington National!' and the cabbie laughed and put the cab in gear.

| 14. What's the deal with Cincinnati? |
|
No offense to DUers who have to put up with it, but are most people there whacked-out neocons? Seems most stories I read of RW nuttiness seems to travel through Cincy.
It sounds like neocon hell to me.
But then again, Jerry Springer was mayor at one time, and he's a Dem.

but it has changed a lot since jerry was here. i would say it would be just about impossible for a dem to do well politically in the cincy area. it is a well oiled repub money machine. its top radio station ( wlw) is very right wing slanted and of course, the cincinnati enquier newspaper is one of the most right wing papers in the country

| 21. I grew up down there, so I'm inclined to have an attitude about Cinci. |
|
I actually grew up in one of the neighboring counties, which became a bastion of bastards over the course of my teen years -- it was about 50/50 Dems and old-guard Republicans when I was a kid, and things got done quite effectively that way, but the neocons discovered that they could appeal to the inherent sanctimony in a certain subset of the old-guard Repubs and overwhelm the Dems in elections. Sanctimony plus money equals ownership in a place like that. You could almost say they sharpened the knife of neoconservatism down there, back in the 80s -- convicing the working poor that the unemployed poor were at fault for their poverty, that bigotry and xenophobia were A-OK, that greed was good, that anybody who wasn't Christian was evil. Worked a trick, too -- you can't win a position above dogcatcher down around Cinci in any of the neighboring counties, anymore, if you're a Dem.
It's not all bad -- Cinci has had a long run of Dem mayors, infrequently broken since Springer. It's like all the whack-job Repubs up here in Dayton couldn't understand why Mike 'Goodhair Junior' Turner wasn't re-elected, even though the population of the City of Dayton is largely minorities and poor white former union members who were shoveled out of their manufacturing jobs ten years ago. How dared they turn out a freshly-minted neocon like Mike? For an experienced African American woman, no less. What were they thinking?
I told one of them what 'they' were thinking -- that Rhine McLin looked like them, and talked to them, and wasn't sanctimonious or condescending like Turner, because she was like them and he wasn't. They all looked at me like I had the Hope Diamond mounted on my forehead.

He can't have Illinois, even though he was born there, it's too blue. But Indiana is close enough, and Repugnican enough. Moreover, it's the home state of Dan Quayle.

Should we have our subjects vote on it? Or maybe we can wait until the conquest of Lebanon. Then we could rename Lebanon, Reagan's Revenge.
