| I don't get it. (campaign donations) |
|
Background: I liked Dean, Edwards, Kerry, in that order, in the primaries. I did not contribute to any primary campaign. I felt I needed to save all I would be able to give until we had a nominee and my money could help make a difference. (Saw Walt Starr's thread, and hats off to all contributors.) Although I had favorites, I'm primarily an Anybody BUT Bush* guy.
Now...I have a couple of friends. Fellow Democrats. Think Bush* is the worst thing to happen to this country EVER. They were big Dean supporters. Donated to his campaign. Now they are seriously chapped that he didn't win the nomination. In "retribution" (?) they will give NOTHING to Kerry's campaign. They can well afford to, but they don't like Kerry. But they don't like Bush* even more, to the 10th power. If they won't give $$$ to "help Kerry", you'd think they WOULD give to get Bush* out. I don't get it. Does anyone else feel this way? Able to, but won't support Kerry with cash?

| 1. I don't know how it is in other countries, but |

here in America, we definitely don't think practically, or strategically, when it comes to politics.
And since "politics" is the process of making group decisions, that's just another way of saying we aren't practical or strategic in our decision making.

I would consider helping him with cash. I am very upset at what the DLC, DNC, and the media did to Dean. I will not give them a dam dime ever again. I will vote for anyone but **** but I am not happy with Kerry at all.

| 6. OK. That's what I don't understand. |
|
We've seen what Bush* and the neocons have done to our country. It's deplorable and frightening. It must be stopped. I guess Dick Gephardt was my least favorite choice. But if he were the nominee, I'd be donating what I could to his campaign. Not to get him IN, so much as to get Bush* OUT.
Believe me, I'm not trying to start an argument, or anger anyone. This is the time for all of us to come together as never before. I just don't understand the reasoning that because one might not like our nominee, or go along with any or all of his platform planks, you wouldn't do all that is humanly possible to get Bush* out.

| 3. Well I think they could give to MoveOn.org and be just as |
|
effective with not specficically giving to the Kerry campaign.
I use to feel this way ( for like 2 weeks after the Iowa primary ) but then I got over it. But they can still support ousting Bush by giving to orgs like Move On

I just give directly to the Kerry campaign because my primary objective is to get him IN.

He certainly is now, and I contribute $25 to his campaign every payday. I wish I could afford to give more. Y'all better get over it and support our candidate, or we are going to have hell to pay, literally.

| 5. How about supporting grassroots candidates? |
|
Edited on Fri Jun-11-04 10:35 AM by madfloridian
How about our freedom to decide to whom we donate? How about donations to groups like ACT, MoveOn, and DFA?
How about our concerns about the fact he may intend to overthrow Castro just as Bush does? I am not Cuban, but I know a lot of them here who equally disapprove of this. How about Venezuela?
How about stopping this kind of stuff....like deciding who the world leaders are?
How about the Kerry campaign cashing our sizable donation from March? How about that? It is now June.

Yes, and I am still trying to check into it. I have a couple of folks checking into it.
Did you read the other stuff I wrote? I have to vote for someone who apparently is just going to continue the same policies in a kinder and gentler fashion. I don't want to be lectured and made fun of anymore here. Ok?
On Edit, this is in response to Trof. I responded to my own post, but I think my point is quite clear.

Must be heavy.;-) I'm not lecturing or making fun of anyone. I don't see how you could draw that inference.
Yes, I read your post, and understood it. And yes, it's important to support grassroots locals. That's why a small group of us in predominately repub South Baldwin County got together and formed a Democratic club a couple of months ago. We now have 35 members and growing. Our motto is "Bringing the two-party system back to Baldwin County".
It concerned me that you HAVE made a donation and your check hasn't been cashed. That doesn't sound good. I donate by credit card on Kerry's website, and it's on the bill, each month.
Peace. :hi:

So many of us are trying, but he just keeps sounding more like Bush every day.
Yes, we donated in Dean's name when he endorsed Kerry....which he still is. A lot of money was handed over that day. Never a word was said.
Thanks for the "chip" insult. It shows you do not understand us at all.

on edit: What part of "peace" was it you didn't understand? ;-)

I am tired of being told that. I am tired of being insulted for being a Dean supporter. The "peace" was not very convincing because the "chip" came first.
Insulting people for their views is quite non-productive. It fact as Kerry wants to go after more world leaders it is worse than non-productive.

How well that "angrily stay divided" strategy worked then, eh?
It should work just as well today.
I suppported Clark, but I am breaking my Goddamned bank account for Kerry and contributing my time, too.
"The mad fools." --Prime Minster De Sadesky "Dr. Strangelove"
Try telling them to give their money to DNC, DCCC, and DSCC if they won't give to Kerry, at least.
