Trailblazer, Durango, Jeep--choose from these makes ONLY

Click and Clack have confirmed what my wife found out the hard way. Plan to set aside large chunks of cash for the major repairs that you will have to pay for if you buy a jeep. Maybe the Liberty is better quality than the Cherokee and the Wrangler, but I doubt it.

They all say the SUVs are SHIT in the winter up there. They all drive 4WD Subaru wagons, like the Outback.

I'm sorry, I won't be an asshole about it, but asking me to pick the best SUV is like asking me which of my children I could give up. There is no right answer IMO. I won't give you any shit though. I say, go with the one that suits you best, and is the most environmetally friendly.

if good, then stick with chevy. Also check online and get a "customer loyalty" cert good for anywhere from $300-$1000 usually toward the purchase of another GM car.

Remember the disadvantages of 4wd:

Intial Cost
Maintenance (more moving parts, more to break)
Insurance
Fuel Economy

If the benefits outweigh the disadvantages then choose 4WD. Remember that braking is the same regardless of 2WD or 4WD. Too many people get over confident and wreck not realizing this. Only difference is that you can get out if you are stuck....I managed to live in Connecticut with a 2WD truck for several years no problem...

Also remember several new vechicles come with AWD this is not the same as 4WD. All Wheel Drive is a computer controlled system that is not meant for true off roading. It is meant more for the soccer moms. You will find AWD in models like Subaru, Lexus, and Honda..

....made for soccer Mom's....one of Jeep's engineering companies is involved with a non-profit board that I sit on....he says it's not nearly as well built as a Wrangler. I personally have had a Wrangler and Cherokee and traded them in within 5 years of ownership....the only repairs they required were brakes. I'm currently driving an '01 Wrangler that needs brakes, but I'm extremely happy with it and will buy another when the time comes. I don't have experience with the Grand Cherokee. If you require a brake job on a Jeep, replace the originals with ceramic, they last about 35,000 miles.

Chevy is making good cars, I have had nothing but problems with Chrysler products (which include Jeep)

the Blazer gets better gas milage and has better resale value

I have owned a durango and now own a Bravada (Blazers corporate cousin)

Trailblazer is the hands down choice

Jeeps have the highest resale value of all American brands, but it's still pretty bad compared to German and Japanese cars.
If you're going off road, Jeeps are better than anything but a motorcycle. Grand Cherokee 4x4's have a solid front axle that is very hard to knock out of alignment
Trailblazers have a very complicated aluminum dual overhead cam new engine vs the Grand Cherokee's very simple very proven all iron engine without a timing belt. Liberty's aren't as proven as the Grand Cherokee and have a different engine.

On the Dodge side, nothing runs like the HEMI and the Durango is highly rated for refinement and space utilization.

20. Jeep Liberty what a piece of crap

Had to take one as a loaner while the Saab is being repaired.
It guzzles gas, handles like a brick on ice skates, and rattles. The only good thing I can say about it is that it has 4 doors and it's easier to put things in the boot.
Unless you're someplace that gets mud and snow 9 months out of the year, or have to haul a lot of stuff EVERYDAMNDAY, then get a car.

If I HAD to have a larger vehicle, a minivan would be the choice.
Everytime I see someone driving a Hummer or Expedition or that big ugly Porsche Cayenne, the thought goes through my mind, BCSD? (Big car, small doodad?)

We have a 5 year old Cherokee Sport and it has never been in the shop.

I don't know much about the Liberty, but this is my husband's third jeep product and he has NEVER had any problems. I hope they have a hybrid by the time we trade-in.

I bought a used '98 Grand Cherokee, in 2001. Except for the air conditioning, which I knew was a problem when I bought it, I LOVE her. She has not been in the shop except for regular maintenance, and when I screwed up the transmission getting un-stuck from snowbank.

I purchased the extended warranty, and it covered the transmission, and has covered fully the three times the air conditioning has quit.

Gas mileage of course is not good, at 15mph, but I don't drive it every day.

I like the space inside and on top, for hauling around the dogs and our camping equipment. We tent camp and go to the cabin a lot, and by the time we have all our stuff and the dogs ready to go, the cargo area and top luggage carrier are full ... but there's still enough room for the dogs to ride comfortably.
