is that wars on ideologies/movements don't always work well (cf. war on drugs, poverty, what have you).

there are usually more satisfying outcomes when NATIONS have wars with each other.

iraq is just a bush family/cabal circle jerk and diversion to keep us fighting with each other here in the US. plus it is a convenient way to get lots of oil and kill brown people in the process.

4. People do not change their culture unless they want to

People tend to do what they believe to be the right thing. It is our nature and drive. If this were not the case then order and society would not be possible. It must be that in general the human species organises in social patterns and strives to build within that structure. In short people are in general good.

The question then becomes one of around what principles does this structure organise. The answers to this question that a society arives upon form the basis of their culture. Their defintions of right and wrong. As a child is raised in its society it is indoctrinated in the cultural values held by that society. It becomes the filter by which they view the world. It defines what they believe to be right and wrong.

Thus it is that a group of Islamic religious police can believe that they are doing the right thing by not allowing a group of Muslem girls to evacuate a burning building because they are not wearing their veils. This is the right thing to do in their eyes. It seems barbaric and cruel to us. But we cannot make them see this as they cannot make us see the compassion in their actions.

Thus when we tell them they are being cruel to their women they see no sense in our words. It has no meaning to them. There is no doubt in their beliefs. And without that doubt there is no reason to examine ones beliefs for problems. Thus you cannot simply tell a people they are wrong and expect them to comply. They will not change unless they themself realise the necessity of change.

Saudi police 'stopped' fire rescue

Saudi Arabia's religious police stopped schoolgirls from leaving a blazing building because they were not wearing correct Islamic dress, according to Saudi newspapers.

In a rare criticism of the kingdom's powerful "mutaween" police, the Saudi media has accused them of hindering attempts to save 15 girls who died in the fire on Monday.

About 800 pupils were inside the school in the holy city of Mecca when the tragedy occurred. 15 girls died in the blaze and more than 50 others were injured

According to the al-Eqtisadiah daily, firemen confronted police after they tried to keep the girls inside because they were not wearing the headscarves and abayas (black robes) required by the kingdom's strict interpretation of Islam
