| Help w/rumor -- Moyers "Now" Being Cancelled? |
|
Wife writes:
"Is there talk of PBS cancelling Bill Moyers's "Now" show because of persistent liberal slant? (a/k/a truth telling)?"
Anyone heard anything about this?

just shortened to 1/2 hour. PBS has recently appointed repubs to their board, now i'm sure theu will calim that has nothing to do with it but we can all read between the lines. Bill Moyers will be leaving NOW after the election and David Bracchio will be hosting.

| 3. Here's what I've heard. |

Moyers long ago announced that he would be leaving the show to write a book on LBJ. David Brancaccio, who is more or less co-host these days, would take over the primary duties.
However, a recent article in the New Yorker suggested that "Now" would be cut down to 30 minutes instead of the current one-hour format. I think that would be a crying shame.
Also, to be fair, despite the whining about liberal bias, Moyers and Brancaccio do interview Republicans and/or conservatives for various stories, so it's not as though they're depicting them as two-headed monsters.
And like the best news magazines, it also includes discussions of matters concerning culture, media, faith, and so forth. It doesn't shy away from poets or pastors.
My recommendation is that you e-mail, call or write your local PBS station and let them know just what it is you enjoy about the show. You might also contact Pat Mitchell (I forget whether she heads up PBS or the CPB, but you should be able to find a listing for her) regarding your feelings.

| 5. There was a good article in the New Yorker |
|
a few weeks back about PBS shifting to the right. I read it when I was stuck in the Charlotte airport...anyway there is back lash over NOW and other programs (I don't know which) being too partisan so they are cutting NOW down to a half hour and giving Tucker Carlson and some other right wing shill (I forget which) their own show. So much for fair and balanced on PBS anymore!

| 6. I was thinking yesterday that NOW isn't so much "liberal" as it is a |
|
truly INVESTIGATIVE type of show....which, of course, is much too "odd" for the media today.
What we get instead are shows of punditry, with hosts that don't moderate, but have, usually, a conservative point of view, and use the time to push liberals around....if they're even allowed on.
For PBS to put on Tucker Carlson is that type of pandering. He's already on a show, but PBS thinks he's needed even more. I caught a bit of his show....same old pap.
They'll never get a cent from again.
