N.H. Lawmakers Tell Congress "Don't Amend Constitution"

(Concord, New Hampshire) A bipartisan group of New Hampshire politicians announced their opposition Monday to a proposed amendment to the US Constitution to ban gay marriage.

Hearings on the Federal Marriage Amendment are scheduled for Tuesday in Washington, and a vote is scheduled for mid July. (story)
Former New Hampshire Gov. Walter Peterson, a Republican, called the amendment "an enormous waste of time and money for Congress."

The bipartisan group, calling itself the Campaign to Protect the Constitution, released a list of New Hampshire lawmakers who oppose the amendment at a Concord news conference.
