10. What I find funny...

Is that they're still whores for a bestseller, even though the company is GOP to the core. Shows where their morality really is; with their idol, $$$$$. IMHO, Sam's should put their money where their mouths are and NOT carry it. That would be the "principled" thing to do, I would think.

Further, I think that the freepers should just flat-out boycott Sam's for this horrendous act of indecency! I mean, really - Bill Clinton's book next to all those different versions of the Bible? ;-)

My point is: Sams/Walmart/et al support politicans who sanctimoniously rant about everyone else's moral failings and "lack of principles." Meanwhile, they can't stop themselves from worshipping the idol of $$$$ by selling the book of their political friends' sworn enemy. Why don't they make a stand on principle? I know why, and I pointed it out: they are whores. "Put the money on the nightstand - oh - I mean checkout counter. Can I see your Sam's Club card?"

Further, I'm not saying what I would or would not do in their place - but then, I don't align myself with people who hold themselves out as holier-than-thou (read: flaming self-righteous hypocrite). Hope that makes things a bit clearer.

I work at Costco, and the Big Dawgs book was flying out the door today! I had the best day ever there - "feeling the love"!

15. Jim Senegal is under a lot of pressure

from Wall Street to treat us like crap so they can squeeze a few more dimes for the "money that makes money" class. He refuses to lower wages or raise prices for members.

I love that quote! He's a hero of mine. He draws a fair (as opposed to obscene) salary for himself, donates to Democrats, and stands his ground.

I'm sure it sounds corny, but I'm really aware no matter what I'm doing at work that I'm working "for a good cause". That if the Costco business model can whip the Waltons then there's hope in America. It really ticked me off that Walmart was named the "Most Admired Company in America" by the hundreds of CEOs polled by Fortune Magazine - for the last three years in a row! This is what they "admire"? It's truly a race to the bottom. I am glad to be playing my very small role in the "counter-revolution".

9. Costco rocks!

When we moved, we were thrilled to find that we had one only about two miles away and we go often. I hope to get over there in the next day or two to pick up my copy of Clinton's book.

Where are you? I remember the very first Price Club store on Morena Blvd in San Diego when I moved here in '81. I've loved the place ever since and was initially upset when Price sold it to Costco. However, the Price Family has remained prominent in San Diego and has shared its good fortune in many, many ways.

Costco has carried on the Price Club tradition admirably and I love it even more since Wall Street, Sam's, and Wal-Mart are howling about it!

12. I'm at a newer Costco

the only one in Delaware, and it's only been here six years. Since Delaware is "the home of tax free shopping" and Jersey, Maryland and Pennsylvania are only minutes away (and Costco rocks! lol) we are VERY busy!

I've read about the Price stores on the west coast. Did you know that the former Price stores have remained unionized under the same union they had before Costco bought them? My store is not unionized, but it's a very agreeable company to work for. I work hard but am treated fairly, and as a progressive I can feel good about working there.

Costco is the "anti-Walmart". They value their members and employees. They value their shareholders too - but not above everything else. I think people who invest in companies like Costco shouldn't be looking for a "rape and pillage" model, but a sound growth stock.

I didn't know about the union status of the former Price stores, but I'm not surprised -- and very glad that you don't feel a union is necessary for you to be well compensated and treated.

I'm happily aware that Costco is the "anti-WalMart" and revel in that knowledge every time I shop there. You're certainly right about Costco investors. It would make sense that they would respect and value the company's philosophy. If they want "rape and pillage" profits, they should simply invest elsewhere!

Wal Mart wouldn't pay Knopf the going rate for the REAL Clinton book...it was too expensive. With their cheaper knock-off version, they're able to keep their customer prices low while at the same time depriving an American-based business of income. An all-around win!
