Just got back from Fahrenheit 9/11

I went to see a sneak preview hosted by Military Families Speak Out and Veterans for Peace. Many in the theater had family in Iraq. There was not a dry eye in the house.

Stop what you are doing, right now, and find a way to buy tickets to see this film.

because it was a benefit for the aforementioned groups. So the place sold out despite the expensive tickets, and on top of everyone getting their socks blown off, the two groups made $5,000 to continue their work on our behalf.

there are some gruesome scenes in F911. scenes that I could not watch. and since they are video, with live audio, all the more disturbing.

this includes SCREAMING soldiers, horribly wounded Iraqi children, and footage of amputees.

Hi,

First of all thanks for the heads up on the gruesome scenes; this will give me a chance to warn my teens.

I am bringing my teens, ages 16 and 15, as they are very politically savvy and they would probably kill me in my sleep if I refused....kidding, just kidding.

I feel that my kids are old enough to see this movie and yes, I do hope they are extremely bothered by these scenes. They should be...they should be horrified and know that war is NOT the sanitized version being put out by this administration.

be kicking and screaming too if I didn't take her. I wouldn't let her go to Passion and could easily explain whynot. But she listens to me everyday talk about politics. After Paul Wellstone was killed and Coleman elected and other democrats lost she said, "People are going to die because of this election." (And she was talking about people freezing because of loss of affordable housing not the war that would come.) HOw do you tell a kid like that she can't go see a movie like F9/11?

I knew everything in the film - from the Enron-Halliburton-Turkmenistan-Unocal-Bush-Saudis stuff to the fake-ass 'intelligence pre-Iraq. What blew my mind was seeing it on the big screen. Michael More has, with one stroke, undone three years of crappy television journalism.

the press has just got to be embarrassed by this movie because when people see what they should have been shown by the press, they are going to lose whatever credibility they had. I think that's why most of Michael's interviews have had an obvious hostility toward's him. If it wakes them up to what their job should be, then Michael deserves the Nobel Peace Prize. Come on, American Press - do your damn job.

Yeah, I suspected there wouldn't be anything new there for me either. I'm one of the scary folk who watch this administration very, very carefully so I saw each of these things unfolding in real time. However, having seen this movie yesterday afternoon, I will say it was sweet to see it all laid out so neatly, so amusingly, so poignantly. There wasn't a dry eye in the house when Lila Lipscomb went through her process. And there was a bit of profanity thrown out at Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld/Ashcroft etc. by the packed house. There were multiple times that the audience broke out in spontaneous applause to one of Michael's zingers. All in all, it was a beautiful experience. It was also cool to see each of the local stations setting up their cameras. Of course, since I eschewed TV a number of years ago, I have no idea what their slant was.

.. from my recollection. Obviously, because there is documentation and corroboration from Richard Clarke about permission for those flights.. they obviously were initiated before the flight ban was lifted. Otherwise, there would be no documentation and approvals and interviews necessary. From my understanding, the request and approval came before the ban was lifted. The first leg of the flight was completed before the ban was lifted.. the actual flight out may have been after the ban had lifted. That was what I had read.. the point IS that approval was sought BY Bush to fly them out in spite of the ban.. and the trip began DURING the ban. It's real. And it looks bad.

Michael Moore lets the images and the people make his movie for the most part. He doesn't do his own muckraking as much as he did in the other ones. I, for one, think that's a good thing. I adore MM, but he is a lightning rod for controversy so by taking himself out of the picture (for the most part) I think it leaves people without someone to blame. Well, other than this heinous administration, that is!

Although I won't see the movie 'till tomorrow, from what Mr. Pitt has said, I'm pretty sure I was capable of handling it at 12. Kids are so different from each other at that age so it really depends on the kind of person you daughter is.

My only recomendation would be to tell her that you heard this movie quickly depicts dead soldiers and babies in war and ask if she's okay with that. No need to suprise her on that sort of thing. I know it's not all that unusual for people her age to see such depictions in horror flicks, but it's obviously much harder to dissociate yourself from such images when it's in a documentary.

And I'm sure I don't have to even say this, but talk about it afterwards with her.

I don't think taking a 12 year old girl, regardless of her growing political interest, would be a great idea.. until you see the film yourself. My 12 year old feels quite politically mature, but the graphic death in the film would really be too much for a child her age to process. They're still quite young, even at 12. Though the truth would be great for her to know.. it may be overload. I won't take my 12 year old.. even though she thinks Bush is an idiot. We may consider watching the DVD with her when it comes out, here at home. That way she has the option of going upstairs if it gets to be too much, or we have the option of stopping the film if she needs to ask questions, or take a moment to take it all in. My 12 year old needed help understanding the trailer for the film. She's very bright, but kids don't always get the nuances or history of these things. The "R" rating was not politically motivated.. I think the graphic death and war scenes are really too much for most kids. I urge you to reconsider taking her before you see it for yourself. Then you can decide if it's right for her, or if you'd rather wait so she can see it at home, in an emotionally safe environment.

She told me she doesn't want to see a lot death right now, and then gave me a very cogent and eloquent description of why I despise the war and Bush.

She's been paying attention. I was stunned.

We'll probably just show her the DVD, or make a second trip if she changes her mind. But I'm not forcing her to see it if she doesn't want to.

63. I'm not a parent, but I would take my children if I had any.

My parents NEVER censored what I watched on TV or in public. Mind you I was raised by a professor and and artist. I saw the Vietnam WAR (I was younger than your daughter at that time), Watergate and occasionally extreme violence (not gratuitous) or sex. I also watched peace protests and America's reaction to the violence. My parents discussed this openly with me and put it into perspective.

As a result, I HATE WAR! I marched as a boy in protests, I campaigned for Jimmy Carter and wore a sign in parades though I was too young to vote - because I hated Nixon. These feelings were not necessarily handed to me by my parents. I came to my own conclusions which surprised them and made them speechless at times... they are still speechless because I am very open about my politics (shockingly at times), politically active on the local level, and have kept them on their toes.

You may find someday that your daughter will hound you until you write letters to Congress, though you may feel like: "I've already done that - I paid my dues - I'm retired now, etc." Today, my father is compelled to use his intellect and education because he trained me that way as a child, and I'm constantly reminding him of that directly or indirectly through my actions.

These are my thoughts and please don't feel pressured by my little story.
