there might have been others . i wasn't paying attention to politics as much then so i can't even remember the primary as it was happening. i just remember that clinton was the democratic candidate.

| 7. Gore was 88. Add Wilder, Harkin, and the spectre of Cuomo |
|
...that was the 1992 field, largely defined by who wasn't in it.

| 11. No, Gore and Gebhart and Simon ran in 1988 against Dukakis |
|
along with Jesse Jackson. Nobody wanted to run in 1992 because George Bush was "unbeatable." Remember, Cuomo was supposed to be the heir apparent, but decided not to run. Tsongas and Brown were the main guys running against Clinton. The independents ran Perot. And, Buchanan opposed Bush in the early primaries.

| 5. that's an incredible list of people, it would have been tough for me to |
|
pick from them. i had no trouble picking kerry to support as i always liked him, but started to like him even more as i learned about him. he stood out for me among the candidates.

| 12. i'm pretty sure i would not have supported Clinton |
|
but i have to say, i have no regrets he ended up winning the nomination. and he is one of my favorite politicians, even if i don't agree with him on everything. i hope kerry can do the same for people who did not support him in the primary. i have talked to many people who supported paul tsongas in the primary, but hearing them talk it seems like they always loved clinton.

| 14. Some of the big names stayed out |
|
They thought it would be political suicide, since Bush I at the time was considered a shoo-in after his 'success' in the Gulf War.
Gore, Bradley and Cuomo were a few who stayed on the sidelines.
Obviously, they didn't know that the economy was going to crumble, and Perot was going to jump in and be popular enough to steal votes from Bush.
Clinton was definitely the benefactor of that race. He was an obscure governor who ran a phenomenal campaign and took the prize.

| 15. it really shows how great Clinton's political insticts are |
|
considering he had the whole background of not just not serving in war, but being a protestor. yet he still tried out at that time and he knew how to frame the debate to help him.
