| Dallas, Texas showing of F911 very interesting indeed!!! |
|
I went to a showing of F911 in a burb to the north of Dallas tonight. VERY conservative area (Plano).
There were three times more police officers there than usual, but no protests or anything.
I got to talking to some people around me. I recognized a couple from Dean meetups!
But there was a group of guys maybe in their late 20s, early 30s near me who told me they were bush supporters who were kinda on the fence and wanted to see this to see what all the hoo-ha was about. See if it lived up to the hype and all, see if it changed their feelings any. There were five of them. They told me they work in finance.
At first every time the audience laughed at bush, they made loud scoffing, disgusted noises. Then they started laughing, too.
THEN, during the bush family/bin Laden family/Saudi royal family connections part of the movie, they started audibly gasping and occasionally saying "Oh my God".
At the end, everyone stood up and applauded for a long while (biggest applause moment DURING the film was when the soldier said he used to be a Republican but they "don't do things in an honest way" and now will start working actively for the Dems).
Well my five financial on the fence bush supporter guys just SAT there. They looked stunned. The lights came up and I asked them what they thought (I never told them my position nor did they ask). They sorta worked their jaws silently and shook their heads and said these things: "That was.....harsh." (I asked him what he meant and he said "I had no idea--that it was that bad.")
"Geez, is all that true???" I told him I knew 99% of that stuff from the reading I'd done the last few years. He looked surprised and said "you KNEW that stuff?" (like it was a state secret or something) and I assured him I did. When I said that several people around us turned around and said they knew a lot of it, too. He questioned why he'd never heard it before and a girl suggested he read from many different sources to find out these things and that sometimes the media just doesn't report stuff. He said "that's un-fucking-believeable."
Another said, "I actually think I've made up my mind. I can't vote for him." I got some clarification that he was talking about bush.
They left looking dazed, still shaking their heads a lot. Not talking much.

...they always take the bait when someone else offers to pay. Howard Stern listeners, and they've been questioning. The movie drove the nail home. I can't rely on them to do their own follow up research, but they won't be deleting those emails as quickly anymore. And now they realize Stern isn't just ranting, but right. If we can't convince them to vote for Kerry, we can try to convince them they can't, in good conscience, vote for Bush. And that'll hopefully be enough to get the fraud out of office.

decided on several people for whom we are going to PAY FOR THEIR TICKETS to go see it.
That's how damning and how powerful it was. Now if I could only stop shaking (too angry).

Haven't seen lines like that since LOTR.. Was um.. uplifting, they had to keep adding shows. Didn't see any neocons get converted but saw people registering to vote afterwords. My favorite part was when the soldier said "I'm not going back to Iraq to kill other poor people. They didn't do anything to me and they are not a threat to me"... That got the loudest applause here...

Diehard wingnuts will NOT watch the real GWB footage in this movie; but diehard wingnuts are in the minority. Bush needs moderate votes and this movie is a wake-up call to indie voters, BIG TIME!
WOOHOO!! I love to read about the conversions...BRING EM ON!

someone had socked them in the stomach over and over again.
The great thing about bush supporters I know complaining about the movie? I can say, have you seen it? And when they say no, I'll say ok go see it, THEN we'll talk.
Then they either have to see it or shut the hell up.
I love it. Thanks Michael!!!!

| 10. Sweet Report, Moonbeam! |
|
We went with a group of ten to the Magnolia along with GinBarn and Derby. Mostly the choir, but one of the guys we invited said he is definitely dragging his RightWing father to see it.
Also met a woman and her husband while standing in line to enter that were from Highland Park. One of our group had misunderstood us and brought an extra person with them thinking we had a extra ticket. I was with GinBarn agonizing over what we were going to do. This woman overheard me and after a couple of minutes asked me if we were needing an extra ticket. She and her husband had one and gave it to us and would not let us pay them for it.
The Magnolia sold out 6:00, 7:30 and on. Said they aren't quite sold out yet for tomorrow, but close.

I live in Plano; caught F911 at a matinee in Frisco. Lots of people, standing ovation, one lone cop outside the door, no protesters. It was WONDERFUL.

There were police officers all OVER the place at this theater. When I went in, I actually thought maybe something bad had just happened, that's how many clusters of them were everywhere!

| 17. To moderate Republicans: |
|
Listen, Republicans: Don't you deserve a party leader who fights for your conservative ideals with logic, facts, and reason? Don't you deserve a transparent executive branch? Don't you deserve to be told the truth?
I know you love your party. Bush, however, is not your guy. He's trashing and exploiting everything you believe.
Voting for Kerry doesn't mean that you are a traitor--it means that you expect more from your party. Get Bush out of office, and find someone to nominate for the 2008 race whom you think will both beat the pants off of the Democrats and create a stronger party. Before you can do that, however, you are going to have to do what many of us have done: hold your nose and vote.

down front but the next show was sold out.One guy somewhere behind me had a couple of smartass things to say.I was waiting for another comment and then was going to find him to remind him of theatre etiquette but he either started listening or one of his neighbors beat me to it.
Anyway, people who had seen it were talking afterwards about how moved they were about it and people who were going in were joining in,asking if it was as much a smack on the Bush admin. as they'd heard. We assured them it was and they went in smiling.
No protesters,a couple of policemen.

| 20. Hey Moonbeam, going to the same theatre this afternoon. |
|
I have afternoon tix for the one I think you saw the movie at (the newer, art house one, not the mall megaplex in Frisco). If, as I assume, I like the movie, I will also go see a show downtown (Magnolia) to get a sense for the crowds in the different areas of town here.
I'll be very interested to see if I see anyone I work with at the film. I'll be pleasantly surprised if I do.

reveal the crimes of our regime, but the blatant propaganda tactics of our corporate media. People ought to wonder why they have to see the TRUTH in a movie instead of hearing about it everyday, thats what is supposed to happen in a free country.

next time you see a cop at the show, ask them what they thought about the movie. I'd really like to know that.
The staff where i saw it were young, but they made a point of coming up to people and thanking them for seeing it (!) a rarity in this day and age. It was obvious that they had watched it and were making sure that everyone else had the same reaction.
No cops here, nor protests.
