| A F911 3 pronged question/poll of sorts.... |
|
1)What part moved you the most?
2)What part angered you the most?
3)What part do you think most lent credibility to Moore's detractors and critics (I think we all agree that even if there were parts, that we don't care, but for the sake of discussion let's be honest).
My answers: 1)The part that moved me the most was seeing that soldier who said he would not go back to Iraq. The utter conflict in this guy just tore me apart. He was clearly so proud to wear the uniform and serve his country, but was determined not to let that suck him into going against his beliefs and continue killing. That segment still gets to me when I think about it.
2)The part where the congressional black caucus members stand on the Senate floor, alone, with no support and not one signature. This made me enraged and tearful.
3)I loathe Hitchens with a passion but I'll admit that he does kinda sorta only in a very little way have a point about the fact that Moore gives the impression that he is diminishing the Afghanistan war by claiming it was in some part due to the oil pipeline, but then criticizing Bush for detracting from that war by going into Iraq. Again, I don't AGREE with Hitchens and I don't think that's what Moore believes, but it does have a hint of truth to it in that people could pull that message away from it.
Please, no lectures or rants on point 3. I'm just talking gut instincts and personal impressions here, and playing devil's advocate, not looking for a debate on any one issue. I love the movie and no matter what criticisms someone may have about it, it's still not even a tiny fraction of what the mainstream medai have done over the past 4 years.

was the brutality of war and the beheading of someone--maybe in Saudi. I shudder when I think of it. The part that angers me the most is the footage of shrub sitting in that classroom with that stupid look on his face for 7 cheney minutes after he was told by Card that we were under attack. Credibility for attacks by repugs? I don't know. Maybe I'm just misinformed, uninformed..?? don't know. But I'm taking 2 of my friends to see it Friday.

tied with three things:
1) The young soldier saying that when you kill someone, you lose a piece of your soul, and repeating that again. (Ergo, the USA has lost a piece of its collective soul as well...)
2)Contrasting that with the soldiers jamming in a CD and eagerly looking forward to killing people, like this is some sort of video game......they have lost much more than a piece of their souls...and this is to GW's eternal credit.
3)The woman who collapsed sobbing in front of the White House.
Oddly, nothing made me any angrier then I already am. Most of it was not news to me....only real news was the Senate refusing to sign.

Angered me the most: Bush's evil smirk when he talks about how he knows he's going to get Fla.
Weakest point(s): I think Moore overstated Saddam's "innocence". Also, as much as I enjoyed the "Shiny Happy People" segment, I can see where critics might say it would just be as easy to splice a montage of Bush meeting with other dignitaries. After all, it's what the office has you do, meet and greet people all the time.
Still, I give the movie an A++ and I couldn't be happier about its success!
