He gave this as the reason. Not sure Powell would want to go through a presidential campaign either. A cabinet position may be a lot of work and may subject you to being a lightning rod for criticism, but Powell can handle those with no problem.

Remember back in 1992 when both parties were hoping Powell would run for Pres on their ticket? (Before it came out he was Republican).

He did not want to run because his wife has psychological problems--depression and other stuff--he did not want her to undergo the scrutiny and pressure of the campaign. If he had of wanted it--he would have gone for the top spot then.

I think he must be a nice guy in a way--to protect his wife that way. Some care only for power so much that they don't think about what their family has to go through. So that was good.

I don't think anything would have changed since then though...so I doubt he would do it.

AIM stands for AOL Instant Messenger. You have to go to their web site and download the program. It's a messanging program you have to install on your computer that allows you to chat with other people via your computer. You also have a similar registration process like you did here at DU. If you don't know much about computers, you may want someone to help you out, but the overall process is very easy. I am turning in for now, good nite... :hi:

Don't know if anyone's done any polling about her potential candidacy, but a few months ago the rumors about town were that there was going to be a big switcharoo this summer which included putting Condoleeza in the #2 spot while still maintaining her position as National Security Advisor.

It would be a clever move, since racists and chauvinists really have no where else to go besides the Republican Party.

Armitage and Powell had testified that they did not learn of the November 1985 HAWK missile shipment until 1986.

Powell's one of those who should have been behind bars after Reagan's presidency.
