I could be wrong. My father was in the GOP and he was not like they are now. In fact he was a firm beliver in it 'takes a village' but also lower taxes. Got to recall that taxes on him were way up over 50% and he did not think we should run up debt and have a large army. Army he always said blow up things and do not build society.

it'll be just to weaken Bush and cut into his funds, since he's way far to the left of your average Republican, and there's no way he could win a nationwide primary.

Clark will never run as a republican, he is too liberal, speaks out against republican and conservative ideology in general. He's against these dumb tax cuts for the rich and his dad was a Democratic politician. He's also against this sham Iraq war, and he opposes the Bush view of American foreign policy. He also says that the administration exaggerated the threat of Iraqi WMD, and he says there should be a full 9-11 investigation. He's endorsed scores of DEMOCRATS but has never endorsed a republican.

Still I did raise the issue, since I did hear it from some people.

But the point I was raising is, it is high time we stop attacking each other. Rove does a fine job of inserting wedges, lets not help, shall we?

I'm not a "new democrat" since I was born bluestatedly, but the DLC isn't about embracing conservatism, it's about retaining power. That's the most you can root for in a corrupt system.

I'd take 8 years of Clinton over a civil war.

The impression it made on me the first time I stood in front of it, I will never forget. A class trip in high school - I came across it in an empty gallery. It was hung perfectly for my height, unusual since I am not tall...and I remember thinking, there it is, something I had seen in books, reproductions, postcards all my life, and there was the real thing...the brush strokes were as much of a design as the color paint used. Everytime I see the image, I recall the day. ;-)

What leadership? The DLC is so cowed by the VRWC and the media whores they can hardly get out of bed in the morning. The reason we bash the DLC is their continuing failure to stand up to the Fascists. We bash the Greens not for their ideas, but because they help the fascists get elected. It's as simple as that.

I think you're getting to the heart of the problem.

A lot of dem bashing comes from a perception that the DLC isn't providing either the right kind of leadership to the party, or for that matter, any leadership at all. Further, on our local and state level there is no sign of organization for the 2004 campaign season except that done by individual candidates.

Maybe the DLC is concentrating on fund-raising on the national level but they certainly are not reaching the "troops" on the local level who will carry the banner in Nov. 2004. In this sense, the demm party resembles a loose confederation of tribes who cannot unite to fight a common, well-organized, well-disciplined, well-funded adversary.

The DLC needs to wake up and understand that the anger and passion felt by supporters of Kucinich, Dean and others is very real and very potent. If they ignore this grass roots anger and try to funnel support to more main-stream candidates they will only splinter party support or at the very least dampen enthusiasm for the 2004 election.

Personally, I have not committed to a candidate yet. But I do come to DU often because the passion and energy displayed here is precisely what I expect the democratic party to be doing. The Bush administration must be defeated in 2004 and the DLC MUST tap into the anger and energy of the DU ers to make that happen.
