| ATTN: Phoenix, AZ DUers about the gas shortages.... |
|
I just saw on the Channel 12 news some interesting info about the distribution company, Kinder-Morgan Energy. The CEO and founder is a former Enron executive and they are the 2nd fastest growing company in Houston. And of course, per their spokesperson, they are not to blame for the distribution mess we are witnessing here in town.
Our Dem governor was just on saying she was NOT satisfied with their reasons for this mess and is calling on them to get their act together. Also, she is asking the Feds to let Arizona forgo the special gas we use from March to October and to allow us to use type of gas we use in the winter, she is hoping that can happen in the next couple of days.
Go Janet!!!!!!!!

|
Yeah right. I'm sure none of the former Enron executives picked up any nasty habits like gaming the markets. The energy industry whether it's electricity, natural gas or gasoline can be gamed. These companies are always looking for ways to make more money and taking advantage of a situation. It's just part of their m.o. Even if they get caught the penalties are nothing compared to their profits so it's worth the risk to them.
Good luck to you good folks in AZ, hope you can hang in there. Keep alert and make sure you get to the bottom of this early. Don't let it get out of hand like it did in CA.

| 10. Speaking of California..... |
|
I also noticed that the gas shortage in Arizona supposedly affected gas prices in California. Gas over $2 per gallon in the S.F. Bay Area! YIKES!
I wonder if the Bushies in the oil companies are trying to do political damage in AZ just like they are trying to do in cA? Hopefully that all will backfire!

|
but I do not think the repukes would be successful in that, Janet is popular and seems to be doing all the right things in this mess we are in now. But I would not put anything pass these rightwingers we have here. They absolutely hate the fact that our governor is a Democrat, and a woman!!

She is tough I hear against the Repukes in your state. California could have used somebody like that. Hell! Even Washington state for that matter!

This is terrible. I'm highly suspicious of larceny here. I hope our Governor has the resources to call these corporations out on the carpet if evidence of it is found.

did an excellent job as AZ's Attorney General - she took on Arthur Anderson before the collapse of Enron-AA and won against them for their book cooking in the Baptist Foundation Rip-Off.
Janet's got the resources alright - between her own ears - she's one smart woman and a Democrat we can be proud of.
Of course the right wingers are going to try to clobber her - but the people of Arizona like her and many registered Republicans in traditionally die-hard Republican Maricopa County crossed over to vote for her in Nov '02 and to defeat Matt Salmon one of the worst of the '94 Contract on America Congress thugs.
edit - added an adjective

I do remember seeing a HUGE line over at Circle K, I know some pipeline busted I think. I guess this is great, Janet Napolitano is a great Governor and will be voting for her in 2006.

| 5. Yes, VermontDem, Janet is a great governor, |
|
she takes no prisoners, she looked really disgusted in her interview after she met with the Kinder-Morgan people.
I did not know that Arizona is one of the few states that does not have price-gouging laws on the books, but then I shouldn't be because the repukes have run this state for way too many years. Our wonderful Attorney General, Terry Goddard, Democrat, has said he would like to see our reps pass this law asap!!

| 6. I gassed up Sunday night (took me 20 minutes and |
|
7 gas stations to find one with gas), and paid $1.85 a gallon. I was impressed that there was no gouging going on, and assumed price controls were in effect. Apparently not, as I'm now hearing stories about gas going in the $3 - $4 dollar range.

|
were 1.95 - 2.39. Most were 1.99 -- just one Chevron station was way high compared to the others. I gassed up on Saturday evening for 1.94. I am carpooling with a co-worker the rest of the week. Why we don't do this everyday, I don't know.

I guess it was just luck that I did that because the shortages really started on Sunday. I have a small Suzuki Sidekick that gets about 20-25 per gallon and I am only using it to get to Dr. appointments and groceries, no more then 5 or 10 minutes of drive time. And I take the bus to my work location.
Hopefully, this mess will not last too much longer.

|
that is, if the test on the repaired pipeline turns out okay. Otherwise, it's gonna be pretty rotten. At least it's cooled down a little. Those poor people waiting out in 108 degrees were really suffering.
I should have known there was an Enron connection here!

| 8. How refreshing to see a leader answer questions and give |
|
answers -- as far as she knew. Her candor was very welcome here. She gave a timeline and her expectations.
She spoke live, she took real questions and gave unrehearsed answers. She was coherent. None of this "we're working on it" crap that Jr spewed last week. Real leadership.... gotta love it.
Janet rocks!

they say it's because CA is sending gas to AZ...
Sounds to me like more WH shit to fuck over Davis and the Democrats before the recall election.

| 17. Really, I hadn't heard that we're getting gas from CA |
|
Maybe so, but I thought they were trucking it up from Tucson. Gov. Janet said the holding tanks in Phoenix are full -- it's a distribution problem to the individual gas stations that is causing all the headache.
Whatever.... I don't trust oil people to "shoot straight."

gas from S CA is going to AZ...is the reason our gas prices have gone up .32 a gallon and rising...
However, it's effecting all of CA, I live in N CA., (Humboldt County where I live, always has the highest gas prices in the nation and even higher here, than in Hawaii)...A Costco gas station came in a couple of month's ago...it's helped a bit...not much...
But like I said...I think Bush&Co are squeesing CA & Davis again to insure a Republican victory in the recall election in a few weeks.
Such pigs!
