| Has your opinion of Colin Powell changed over the last couple of years? |
|
I see him on TV with Kofi Annan. And it seems to me he is no better than any of the other liars of this Administration. He came into his job with a sterling reputation, justified or not. He was considered the most respected person in American politics.
But after his performance at the UN prior to the invasion, many have changed their opinions about him. He never apologized for the lies he told before the world. In my opinion, he does not deserve the respect he had previously.

he was the only Bush person that had some integrity, I no longer think that. After his disgusting performance at the UN and the fact that he KNOWINGLY spewed the lies he did, he is scum like the rest of them, imo.

When he presented faked satellite photos to the UN to prove that Saddam was massing troops along the Kuwait/Saudi border.
Remember that, when the Florida journalist got commercial satellite photos of the same region at the same time and they showed nothing but empty desert?
That's when I first realized Powell was full of shit, this is just chapter 2.

| 7. Yes, I admired him when he said (before GWB) that our |
|
military strategy for any action (non-negotiable) must include:
1. A specific, well-defined mission/objective 2. Application of "overwhelming force" 3. Clearly defined "exit strategy"
He based this on lessons learned from US experience in Vietnam.
Well, he's now violated every one of those three.
So, since he's pretty much a sycophant and all-around failure, yes I'm very disappointed with him and wish he would leave his position. His presence is just enabling Bush to get away with a lot.

I had zero respect for him after he fawned to the media about Shrub's first debate performance in 2000 thus giving "serious"credence to Shrub's pathetic performance regarding his foreign policy ideas...He had a serious ax to grind after Clinton exposed his part in the Somalia debacle and whored himself out to the Repukes for the 2000 election...just my opinion. Again, no respect for the guy. I hope that he has serious troubles sleeping at night after all which he has become a part of.

Not even in the slightest. When friends would effuse about him I would ask them to name some things he had done to warrant that praise. The most I ever got was his service in the military and his pro-choice position.

Disliked him during Gulf war when in news briefings he dispassionately talked about war's progress, totally ignoring the death and suffering of Iraqi's. He could have done both and sounded more human.
He signed up to work for Bush when he knew what a scum Bush was/is.
He was booed at the Rethuglican Convention for talking positively about affirmative action. Then he went to work for those people. He has been strongly opposed to gays in the military.
It was clear what he's about a long time ago.

In my opinion, "moderate" Republicans are no such thing. They know as well as, if not better than, anyone that the Republican party is controlled by right-wingers with a radical agenda. The fact that they choose to remain in this bastardization of the Republican party and vote people like Tom Delay into leadership positions indicates to me that they must support that agenda.

yet, just minutes later, colin was totally and inappropriately 'smirking' away...like he has acquired shrub's approach to the world...it's hard to call colin a 'diplomat'....
in addition, colin is the FIRST time that a MILITARY GENERAL has filled this sensitive diplomatic position...and it has shown to be totally WRONG person for the position....

I never thought he deserved the attention he got as a possible prez candidate in the 90's. Then he looked better because the rest of the Bush crowd were so bad. However, he really sold out on Iraq, and I will be glad to see him go next year.

I always thought that Powell was a moderate, but I also noticed that he never seemed ACT like a moderate. He doesn't stand up for moderation and never has. He's sold it. I always figured if he became Pres. he'd be controlled by the wingers.
