I think I know a few government buildings that would have the 10 commandments. I would have a problem with it if it was built using taxpayer dollars which in other words is government funds which in other words is seperation of church and state.

18. It's justice, not money

It's one thing if something biblical is placed in a context along with other traditions. That's the way the US Supreme Court is. It's also historic, the Alabama monolith is 2 years old and intentionally placed to create division.

We are not the same country we were 100 years ago. There are many more people with different beliefs and the State Judicial Building endorsing one set of beliefs is just wrong. This building is where Justice is supposed to happen, Justice that looks beyond a person's religion. This monolith endorses Justice from the State of Alabama as Judeo-Christian Justice, the same Justice that gave the world hatred of Jews, slavery, spousal abuse, and a whole lot more wonderous ideas.

Religion needs to be out of government. It wasn't so engrained in government before the 1950's and McCarthy. We need to get it back out before it tears this country apart.

It's sitting in the middle of the entrance to the State Justice Building. That's an endorsement of one set of religious principles over any other. It's against the US Constitution & their own State Constitution.

People praying in the exact same spot would be fine. That's freedom of religion. It's for the protection of the person's rights, not for the government to endorse a religion one way or the other.

It certainly seems to me that he has made a "graven image" (the large chunk o' granite w/ the Ten Commandments upon it) and is venerating (some would say worshiping) an inanimate object.....

20. I don't know how many here

have been watching Roy on the state/church issue for how long now but we in the atheist community have been aware of this raver for a long time now. He never should have been appointed to a bench. He has used it to sermonize the public ever since he gained his seat. From forcing people to pray to the giant stone monument he has made it his purpose to break the the wall of seperation and dismantle the document he swore to uphold.
