|
That is where the WRITING OF LETTERS (1 letter counts for a lot of e-mails... it is worth paying the cost of the stamp, DUers) AND CORPORATE PRESSURE influences what we get as news. Lehrer told the network guys that not covering enough of the conventions was unconscionable...

If we write letters, it would help to know the whys. Thanks for the heads up, I turned in late and missed the whys.

|
Integrity in journalism, from these sellouts, I doubt very much that they will change their ways now. You know, back in the days of Cronkite, Brinkley, Newman, and company, the American public could count on them to tell us the truth. Where were these SOB's all of the occasions that they refused to challenge the BS that bushhole has been spreading for almost 4 years. To hell with them all!

I think y'all have convinced me.
No more devil's advocate on this topic, for me. Take no prisoners...the media is our best line of defense. When it fails us, we are in serious trouble.
Somebody wake-up BuyCitgo...he has another shot at apoplexia.

indepth coverage of how the media is "goring" Kerry with their inability to sift through all the spin and research the truth themselves. Also, the Columbia Journalism Review (see on cjr.org) recently discussed this very issue -- how political campaigns inundate the media with spin and half-truths to control the propagandic messages because they know journalists won't check it all out....
Besides, CNN's coverage of the Democratic Convention was shameful at best. I hope Al Franken, Randi Rhodes, Molly Ivins, etc. get as much air time as Ralph Reed, et al, during the Republican Convention, but I'm not counting on it....
It's good to see that these men were at least discussing the issue of corporate bias in the news....

I can't help but feel he's all but made Bush an honorary member of the so-called Greatest Generation every time I hear this guy. Brokaw started imbibing the Jack Welch Corporate Kool-Aid a long time ago and he's drunker than ever.
For health reasons, I avoid him like the plague.

I have watched this show 2 1/2 times this week and I get so pissed I end up screaming at the TV and firing off e-mails to c-span, CNN and ABC. These lieing sacks of s*** are even worse than politicians (horrors...is that possible?). Can one of you wonderful, experienced world savers tell me how to get action started to impeach Michael Powell, roll back to 1980 before deregulation to force equal time, bust up the monopolies sucking up our radio spectrum, and re-activate our ability to sue for libel? I feel so powerless and castrated. GAAAAAA!

All that said, welcome to DU. Glad to have your righteous self here.

There are very heard hitting questions here, about the media, war, life and death. And these top anchors are just pompous assholes. When a question is asked about them misleading America into a war based on lies, they just shake it off.
This is what is wrong with our corporate media. I always hated them for being whores, but now I know they are pompous assholes too.
All their ratings are in the toilet, serves them right, f- off!!!

Letting Brokaw and Jennings (what egos) off the hook. These guys don't get it, that they do not fairly depict the facts. Wish the question would be put to them "why do you soft petal (or is it pedal) coverage of *?"

especially so when Jennings was bitching about the structure of the convention. I thought Rather and Lehrer appeared to be at least a bit more honest and humble about everything. Judy Woodruff...ack, I just can't stand her. "My husband, Al Hunt, did a study on this..." Ugh!
This was an 'interesting' program, but it definitely didn't put my mind at rest at all regarding the evening newscasts or the media in general. It was too short and poorly moderated.

I missed some of it , that said they were very defensive about only having one hour of DNC programming a night. This program on C Span was recorded before the convention. The last night after Kerry's speech I tuned in to MSNBC. Brokaw went ballistic when Scarborough pointed out that Kerry's speech was rushed so it would fit in the time frame allotted for convention coverage. Now I know why.
