| And now for something non-political (libraries) |
|
Join your local Friends of the Library group. Maybe they call it something else, but they probably have some kind of support group. If they don't have one, start one.
It's a great way to promote literacy and reading in your community. They can use your help. And besides feeling good because you DID something good, there are other side benefits.
You get to know the staff and they get to know you. One big happy family. And then you can do this:
"Foley Public Library" "Hey, Jan?" "No, it's Donna." Oh, hi Donna, how ya doin'. It's trof." "Hi trof. What's goin on?" "Can you renew a book for me?" "Sure, just a sec." "Thanks. I checked it out to read on vacation and got too busy vacationing to read it. Just started it and it's due back today." "OK, got it. Franken's Lies and the Lying Liars?" "That's it." "Good book. OK, it's due back the 16th. Enjoy." "Thanks, Bye" (OK, this was pretty much non-political. ;-))

| 1. You should post this on the Al Franken blog |
|
I bet he'd use it on the air. He's always looking for ways to sneak in a plug for his book, much to the chagrin of Ms. Lanpher.

you may get elevated to the next level...
They renew your books without asking They let you take new books out before they have been cataloged They start asking you to recommend books to buy They give you the key to the archives, only requesting you turn the lights off and lock up when done. They hold books that they think you may enjoy They smile when you enter the library
My little library takes care of me...:)
