Whoops, Fineman in trouble for bashing Chris Matthews

I hear that political journalist Howard Fineman is in very hot water with his bosses at MSNBC for comments he made on the air about "Hardball" host Chris Matthews.

Fineman, a "Hardball" regular who has moonlighted at MSNBC and NBC for the past six years while writing for Newsweek magazine, went on Don Imus' radio show Friday and compared the ratings-challenged "Hardball" to Matthews' much more popular syndicated Sunday show.

"One reason why Chris Matthews' Sunday show is so successful is that the producer there tells Chris, 'Shut up!'" Fineman told Imus, who was goading him to criticize Matthews. "And he does, and the rest of us get to talk."

I'm told that the sleep-deprived Fineman, who was a "Hardball" panelist all week at the Democratic National Convention in Boston, realized his mistake as soon as the words were out of his mouth.

Just because Teresa Heinz Kerry is a billionaire doesn't mean that she doesn't pinch pennies.
I hear that folks at George's Salon in Washington's Four Season Hotel - where Democratic nominee Sen. John Kerry's wife gets her nails done - are complaining that the Heinz Ketchup heiress wants the manicurist to service her at home, a few blocks from the luxury hotel in Georgetown, but is balking at the $90 charge.

Last week, a Lowdown spy overheard a George's manicurist say that Heinz Kerry has been haggling over the fee for her home manicures - three times the $30 it costs in the salon.

Matthews represents white males who like to bully their way to the top of an argument. Not necessarily the smartest in the lot, but certainly the loudest.

Matthews knows all too well what his persona is. Afterall he often shows clips from SNL which represent him as a loudmouth who cuts off his guests.
