They don't even have to attack us! All they have to do is sit back and watch our government scaring us. We are eroding ourselves from the inside. Fear is more powerful than any bomb! We've got to get Kerry into The White House!

It has little to do with our government, and much to do with how we cope in the real world.

3. Too true. And our own responses and escalations only fuel the fire...

Ignoring the effect of terror alerts being announced, and the general ordeal of trying to fly somewhere on airliner, or getting frisked to go into a movie thater, I think our (in the USA gov't sense of the word) actions in the world will have an effect on "terrorism", and we'll be paying for the Iraqi PNAC insanity for years to come.

Do you think there are more Iraqi's and others who want to do us harm in the world now than there were before we shocked & awed them? Will some child with a parent "collateral damaged" (killed) by a stray cluster bomb grow up to be a suicide bomber?

4. I had this theory

which may be coming true...

The theory is... what if Al Qeada simply starts planning dozens
of "terra" attacks, but doesn't operationally do anything. Leaves
plans laying about on random pieces of paper and computers and
stuff. Laughs hysterically whenever the US stumbles upon one and
terra alerts are broadcast and people scurry around in full police
battle gear. Talk about asymmetric warfare! How much does making
up some bogus plans cost... v. how much economic havoc created by
resulting terra alert.

Long term (like cold war long term), this is a winning strategy.
Of course, every few years you have to actually commit one act
of terror just so the cry wolf crowd doesn't win.

because there is no way to wage let alone win a "war on terror" it may be possible if they were honest and called this a war against Islamic terror - but even then you can't stop it occuring therefore you've failed...or you're still engaged, which is the whole point, permanent warfare
