US dismisses reports Pak is training ground for terrorists

The United States has insisted that Pakistan was cooperating in the war against terror despite reports it was training militants and sending them to attack neighbouring Afghanistan.

"There's no question that Pakistan has changed its policy and is determined to rout out the elements of training or support or any other sort of safe haven that terrorists might be getting in Pakistan," US State Department spokesman Richard Boucher said on Wednesday.

Pakistan, which had backed the militant Taliban regime in Afghanistan before a US-led invasion ousted the regime in 2001, had been taking "concerted and difficult" actions against Taliban and Al-Qaeda militants, he said.

"We've seen the loss of life among Pakistani soldiers involved in this fight. And we have worked closely with them and continue to support them, continue to praise the real efforts that they've been making," Boucher said.
