Today condoleeza "no one could ever have imagined planes used as weapons" rice said there was absolutely no politics in the terror threat warning issued last Sunday, just after a brilliant Democratic National Convention.
Here's tom ridge himself, from that terror alert briefing last Sunday:
"But we must understand that the kind of information available to us today is the result of the President's leadership in the war against terror."(
yay, bush keeps us safe)
"The reports that have led to this alert are the result of offensive intelligence and military operations overseas..." (
"military operations overseas" - ? Well, if he meant Afghanistan, he would have said Afghanistan, yes? He wouldn't be trying to insinuate that invading Iraq helped bring this "new info" to light, thereby making us safer, would he?),
"...as well as strong partnerships with our allies around the world, such as Pakistan." (
so obviously the charge that bush has weakened our alliances is false - this alert is proof of that, eh?)
"Such operations and partnerships give us insight into the enemy so we can better target our defensive measures here and away from home."http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2004/08/20040801.htmlRidge could have just said:
"So, thanks to this strong president, and his strong alliances, and his strong military actions, we are able to stand here today and exemplify, by raising the terror threat alert level, how much safer you are."
Nah, this wasn't an unnecessary alert. And it wasn't about anything other than the safety of Americans. And it wasn't timed to thwart Kerry/Edwards momentum. And, by ridge's own words, it was obviously, absolutely not political, right condi?
