Anyone who disagrees can kiss my shiny metal butt. :)
Seriously, Bev, way to be. That was some of the best television I've seen in years. I watched cable news for more than a half-hour, and felt I was learning something pretty much the whole time.
:toast:
Oh, and Howard rules, too.

* The stupidity of the media with Jon Stweart;
* White privilege with Tavis Smiley
* Electronic voting dangers with Bev Harris
* The fallacy of the recent terror alerts with Margaret Cho.

Bev clearly showed us that anyone could go into the tabulation computer software database files (that contain the master tabulations for the various races) and simply edit the totals. When the sofware accesses the altered database files the totals are tabulated to reflect the edits as the real thing.
:argh:
Great work Bev,

had dinner with Bev and Andy just after they filmed this. they are personal friends and the smearing sickens me. they are either world-class actors or world-class activists
and I will go with the latter. (I KNOW actors!)

After her edit, the detailed report (and the data entry screens) would have shown that nothing was changed. That is, the election would have passed a spot check and yet the Election Summary Report(what is used to call the election) would have changed. This is the "two sets of books" issue.

The demonstration with Dr. Dean which only took 90 seconds scares the hell out of me. I'm a computer dolt and what Bev proved was that this is so simple to do and quick, even I could do it. I was under the impression that this was something much more complicated. It's not!!
This is scary stuff. I am optomistic about the Kerry/Edwards ticket but, now I'm not sure we'll ever see them sworn in.

However, I'm a bit perplexed. Having obsessively and relentlessly written e-mails to every pundit, plutocrat, and politician I could think of, about the nefarious nature of BBV's for the last 16 months, I foolishly thought we had managed to reduce the percentage by which Americans would be using these stupid machines.
Yet, after hearing of victories in California and Ohio, I'm still reading disheartening reports, that 30% of the electorate are fated to use these lame assed systems this fall. I know that HR 2239 & SR 1980 didn't pass and that Maryland, Georgia, and Florida are pretty much toast. But haven't we even made a smidgen of progress to knock that percentage down. . .?
Could someone please enlighten me as to whether or not this is true. . . ?

| 19. Nevada has paper trail, Congress in agreement to go paper in 2006 |
|
But like the 2000 election, the GOP have dragged this out so that little will be fixed by Nov - and few places have additional money to order paper ballots.

| 25. we were headed for 50% but got it down to 30% -- |
|
Which is 30% too high.
We cut the number of touch screens almost in half (largely due to California jettisoning 15,000 machines and 31 counties in Ohio rescinding their orders.
Not all of Nevada has paper ballots -- it is my understanding that the deployment isn't 100%. We have had a difficult time getting an answer on that.

... in small words, why she is the subject of much gnashing and thrashing here? Last I heard, she was in a bad deal with a publisher. Quite normal. She sued to make things public, quite rational. She criticized other suits, so what?
Does she sodomize virgin goats, or invade other nations without proof, on her off days, or what?

This thread is supposed to be postive for Bev and gang because of a job well done and for her great appearance on Deans show tonight. To come in this thread and bring this up is to open old wounds. Hence my "smearing" question up above. No need to go there as far as I am concerened. But hey! Who the hell am I?

There is NO OTHER SUIT and that's the problem. She has publicly slandered every professional, reporter and activist on this issue by accusing them, without offering any proof, of doing exactly what she ultimately did - filing a Qui Tam lawsuit. The list is practically endless:
Professor David Dill Professor Doug Jones Professor Avi Rubin Dr. Rebecca Mercuri Cindy Cohn of EFF.org Bob Fertik of Democrats.com Bart of Bartcop.com Alastair of Scoop NZ John Schwartz of the NYTimes Greg Palast Bev Conover of American Journal David Allen of Plan9 Publishing multiple DUers who were her researchers multiple Bartcoppers who were her researchers and on and on and on.....
Pointing out inconvienient facts apparantly doesn't fly here. One person can smear but if you provide a rebuttle thats not ok?
