| Goss nomination? Beware the GOP 1-2-Punch |
|
The favorite trick is to send up the punching bag first, so that the second choice (the real enforcer) won't be opposed.

| 2. or slip in a party-line tower right before you're about to lose |

the deadlier punch is when they nominate an absolute scumbag with a good nominee and the senate gets bamboozled into voting for both or none. that's how rehnquist got on the court.

but in the spirit of bi-partisanship, coming out of a contentious election, it won't be done. If there are any qualms about Goss they need to be brought out now not later.
Edited to add: The reason I say "If" regarding qualms about Goss is that I understand that Bob Graham just came out with a strong statement backing him. Graham deserves our respect when it comes to intelligence matters so I'm not sure how to feel about this nomination now.
