I just clicked in to DU and on the first screen within about a minute I saw this: (on one page)
LaZ Boy 645 jobs plus 120 temps Norshipco 400 jobs (Mfr) Danville VA 375 jobs GM in Lansing 2200 jobs
Sears Roebuck planning thousands of layoffs with IT revamp.
These are not hirings. These are lay-offs.
And when Sears Roebuck 'revamps' you know what that means - jobs will be boarding a super fast jet to India.
What would I read if I went to the second page?
And on TV this morning and on NPR several times today I heard the job picture is improving. Tanslated, this means more people are eating fast foods.

| 2. The "Voodoo Economics" of the Republicans is in full bloom. |
|
They give massive tax cuts to the wealthy. The wealthy already have all the money they need to buy the luxury goods they want. The middle and lower income people who have pressing needs, get shortchanged and don't have the money to buy essential goods. This has lowered demand, depressing retail sales. This kills the jobs middle class people used to have to pay their bills and demand goes down even further. The layoffs you and others have reported are the result of this mad economic policy of tax cuts for the welathy.
On the supply side, the tax cuts were supposed to stimulate investment. But the wealthy who received the biggest share of the tax cuts, are not interested in any risky investments. They put them in safe investments that yield a nice, risk free yield. And as corporations seek higher profits, the money simply goes to India and China instead of being invested at home. So, now we are going to see loss of jobs from the supply side.
What Bush has accomplished with his crazy tax cuts is to deplete our treasury, export our jobs and kill the purchasing power of our middle and lower income people. When he loses the election in November, he will simply walk away from the mess he has created for the rest of us just like he has done throughout his socalled business career.
Unfortunately, this is not the worst of his handiwork. He has sent nearly a thousand young men and women to their deaths and thousands of Iraqi civilians to their deaths too.
To simply call him the worst president in US history as Helen Thomas did, does not do justice to the human wreckage he has created.
