Whenever someone defending Nader says they are pissed with Kerry, and his apologies for defending his vote for the IWR...my only argument is that Nader will not be a candidate on that person's state ballot.

But why do we have to resort to such arguments? If Kerry was running a decent campaign, Nader and Cobb wouldn't even be on liberals' minds! Kerry would be our first choice, not our second or third choice. Repukes know that when they are out of power, the only way to win power is to close ranks and unite behind a single message. If Democrats and Kerry fail to do this, then our party may receive a permanent fatal blow in politics.

When Whigs debated with Democrats in the 1850's...they argued not against slavery, but in favor of national unity. They argued that the compromise of 1850 should be the reason white men should vote for them. In essence...the whigs dematerialized because they became the Democrat-lite, and states rights over slave owner's rights party.

This is why northern and western voters disenchanted with the whigs and democrats, voted Republican from 1856 until the next century. By the Civil War, Whigs were no longer a force in American politics. Instead of taking sides on defining issues, they avoided them to stay in power. And this path resulted in the doom of Whigs.

Will Kerry and Edwards let the same happen to the Democratic Party? Or will Democrats make a stand in 2004 on issues that will effect America's politic landscape for decades?
