I just completed the strangest Zogby poll ever!
They had the standard questions as usual, but they had a LOT of odd ones.
What was GWB's most significant accomplishment? Iraq, 9/11, Health Insurance, Unemployment, not sure, refused.

What was GWB's most significant failure? (Choices same as above.)

Do you like GWB as a person?

Are you satisfied with the current choice of candidates, or would you like someone else?

Should the President emphasize the roll of religious values in making his case to the voters?

Do you support: same sex marriage, civil unions, neither?

then there were a lot of questions about your personal preferences, like:
Are you a cat or a dog person?
What is your astrological sign?
Do you watch movies at home on a VCR or aDVD?
Are you on a carbs or no carbs diet?

And probably the most interesting of all:

How willing would you be to support the President if he were elected by a razor thin margin and he was not your candidate of choice?

It was an interesting poll, but don't you thing some of those questions are really weird and unrelated to politics? Hmmmm

1. I took it too
Some of the questions really were weird. I was wondering where they were going with them.

"stero-types....so I took my time to see what they were looking for that would stroke Kerry......and screw *bush.......

They were looking for class, education level per the life-style ....repug vs democratic ideals.

4. I thought the same thing, but
astrological sign, kind of diet, and cats/dogs? I really don't see a link there. Don't tell me we're going to hear most Libras are Pubs? OR Dems like dogs and Pubs like cats?

I just thought the whole thing was really strange.

3. I would say that 9/11 is his most significant accomplishment
But, he did a great job promoting unemployment too...

6. I've never clicked "refused" to so many questions in a Z poll.
I wondered if they were doing market research for certain product lines...maybe getting paid for their efforts.

11. Is it possible that it IS market research for a candidate?
Is there any reason (ethics? professional standards?) that would prevent them from taking money from one of the campaigns to do research that could then be used to tailor and fine-tune their appeals? (I tend to think of this as Rovian, but Democrats also use admen, so who knows?)

I mean, of course they do such private polling, but can they do it at the same time as a general poll, without telling the respondents? I'm inclined to think they can and do, but I don't know. And if they did do private polling for one of the political parties, would that damage their reputation for balance? Do the RW pollsters like Luntz call themselves "Republican" or do they try to look neutral but fail?

8. Yes, it was a little strange.
I had a terrible time deciding whether I would vote for the Tin Man or the Cowardly Lion, and deciding my favorite ice cream flavor.

9. That's my point! What were they looking for?
These things are completely irrelevant to any campaign, unless one of the candidate owns Bordens. :P

Wonder if I'd get an answer if I asked Zogby?

I know it doesn't really matter, but it's bugging me.

20. i think you should ask. i emailed them a few months back and got a
response from johns son or partner or something

but it was a response to my specific question (i asked them how come there polls at the time were so different from the other major outfits. not that i wouldnt love to believe theirs, but i had to ask)

10. I voted "Neither"
when it came to the Scarecrow and Tin Man. I'm certain that we can have a president with both brains and a heart. But it was a strange poll and it took way too long.

12. This question...

"How willing would you be to support the President if he were elected by a razor thin margin and he was not your candidate of choice?"

gave me a queesy feeling in my stomach, like they were looking for the potential possibility of revolution?

But, maybe my tinfoil hat is too tight today.

15. They are profiling.
Getting a general idea of what personality type is likely to vote Republican or Democratic, and what kind of issues push the buttons of what type of person. They might be doing it just for themselves, but it seems more likely they have a client (perhaps academic?) who wants this information.

17. that poll took me forever
not because the questions were so weird, but because i think they didn't want to hear any more from a coke-drinking, cat-loving, dvd watching, ben & jerry's lovin', liberal aquarian who'd rather have a beer with kerry & watch F 9/11 instead of "the Passion". :tinfoilhat:

the pages kept timing out, so it took me about 5 tries to get it done.

18. This is how Zogby makes money
Someone has retained Zogby to put these questions in the poll. I haven't seen this one yet - I'll probably see it at work on Monday. But from the examples given, it looks like there is a new ad campaign in the works by somebody or another. The question is: is the ad campaign going to be for political, or commercial reasons?

I just signed up for the online polling last night. I'm not quite clear on how it works, though, how you actually take a poll.

I got the feeling that it was like a lie detector test.

You know, like, when's you birthday?, what's your favorite color?, do you like Coke or Pepsi? then "Did you kill your wife"?

25. Took it, too
Was actually just going to post about it when my husband saw this thread... Definitely weird. I figured it was someone either looking for corelation between some of those things and political preferences, or perhaps someone outside politics? I mean, can some marketing company get Zogby to add some of those questions to profile by age and gender for market research, regardless of political affiliation?

The 'razor-thin margin' question, combined with the 'which of the following would you be willing to fight for' questions did make me put the tin foil hat on for sure, though. :tinfoilhat:

26. It was very strange ...
I have been on Zogby's panel for ages and have been accustomed to getting polled ever so often. However in the past month, it seems I am getting the request from them about once a week. I know this is the fourth one I've answered in a very short time span. And to you Libras, I'm a Scorpio and I loathe the Slime Thing in the Oval Office just as much as you and told Zogby I would not accept another 'razor-thin' victory for the Party of Liars.
