| Culture through the decades. |
|
In the 1950's, America was a very conformist culture. There were expectations on people to be a certain way. McCarthyism is just one example of that. Everyone had to conform to morality. Sex was bad, etc. Then came the 1960's and then the time of rebellion came. Rock and Roll got really big. While it incited some rebellion in the 50's, it got huge in the 60's. Everyone wanted to push the evelope as far as they could. Then in the 70's, the attitude was that you are free to be you. You can be whatever you want and nobody will judge you for it. THen the 80's came along. The "Greed is good" decade was kicked off and it seemed that corporate powere was becoming more prevalent. In the 90's things were a little better. It was a decade of prosperity for many. Corporate power was still very prevalent, but it didn't seem to be at the expense of regular people. Then the 00's became the "Is Our Childeren Learning" decade. We are expected to conform once again. The only difference is while they say sex is bad, they keep it around because it sells. It is also the decade of being dumbed down. Dumbed down music, dumbed down T.V. and dumbed down Presidents. We've come a long way baby!!!!!
