After weeks of charge and countercharge in the presidential campaign, comedian Jon Stewart tried Tuesday to get to the bottom of the debate over Democrat John Kerry's military service in Vietnam.

"I watch a lot of the cable news shows, so I understand that you were never in Vietnam," asked Stewart, host of Comedy Central's "The Daily Show."

Im sorry, but his first two posts were obviously sarcastic. Now it is possible that it was unintentional and just very very poor writing, but you are wrong, the posts were sarcastic.

No reasonable Kerry supporter thinks that we should just take John Kerry's side. Because of that it very clearly reads as mocking those who support Kerry.

If that werent enough, his second post was this:

"I feel there are too many Vets hammering our war hero. We need to just take Kerry's side of the story and quit giving these other Vets the time of day. Is that ok?"

Once again he stresses the large number of vets attacking Kerry (which is really not true) and says we should ignore them and trust Kerry's side of the story. This does not sound in the slightest bit reasonable, it reads like a sarcastic mockery.

Now it is possible that this poster just doesnt understand the issue very well and didnt express himself, possible, but not likely. This isnt paranoia, this isnt being unfair to newbies. If indeed the poster was trying to say the right thing it is HIS fault that he expressed himself so poorly.

I understand your point, and in some cases I might agree, but in this case you are 100% wrong. I am not one of those people that is quick to lable trolls, but this wasnt a very vague situation, these posts are very obviously sarcastic and it would be very surprising if they were written in earnest considering thier strong exageration and sarcastic tone.

You arent on the high road here, you are taking a safe position and sniping at your fellow DU'rs for what you mispercieve as an unfair reading.

both sides. the tone was pretty strong.

this person may be young, it sure sounded like it anyway. and not everyone is socially skilled at communicating. these are just my thoughts fwiw.

anyway. he emailed me back and did sound sincere. it would seem that if he just wanted to disrupt he would do that and disappear. but he stuck around and tried to reply to several people questioning him all at the same time, it can be overwhelming....

again there are so many people who dont know the best ways to communicate. and this can be a fast moving place.
