I'll also explain it to the Republicans since they have a hard time separating the two events: The war in Afghanistan is a war against our declared enemy, al Qaeda. The war in Iraq is a useless war that is merely an extension of the Bush/Hussein family feud. Yes, all of the deaths are tragedies, but the deaths in Iraq are senseless.

Democrats agreed (and agree) with fighting in Afganistan. We hava also insisted that the combat in Iraq is NOT part of the "war on terror".
If one is argued to be legitimate and the other is not than we should not combine the body counts.
