| Did anyone see David Letterman tonight? |
|
First of all, it seems the audience was made up of a lot of Republican conventioneers tonight. Lots of boos directed at Michael Moore during a live "Biff at the Convention" segment. Michael Moore gave an explanation of the McCain remarks about him last night, saying that the Bush people didn't inform McCain beforehand that MM would be in the press box, & that they were behind the McCain remarks.
McCain was on following the commercial & he gave his own diplomatic response. He stuck with his "disingenious filmmaker" remark about MM, though, even though he didn't see "F-911".
Here's the good part: Letterman told McCain that the swift boat ads against Kerry were only hurting those who served in that war & he didn't think it was right. McCain was nodding his head up & down, then Letterman cut to a commercial.

| 2. I think Letterman is very upset with Bush |
|
I think Letterman has kept contact with some of the GI's he met when he went to Afghanistan and I don't think he likes what is hearing.

He's hated him ever since he first interacted with him - during the '00 campaign. Bush made an appearance on TV and it came off horrible. Bush, as usual, was a complete ass hole, making a "joke" about Letterman's heart surgery, something which he was still very sensitive about.
Later Bush actually made an actual live appearance on his show. That didn't go off well either. Letterman to his credit grilled Bush on the death penalty and the environment. To this date I don't think I've seen anyone really ask Bush those questions to his face. Also there was a clip of Bush wiping his glasses off of one of the producers' dress. It looked really crude and disgusting.
Also, don't forget Letterman was a guest of Al Gore when he was teaching at Columbia.

| 3. Yes, I was taken aback by the boos... |
|
I assume the crowd is typically pro-Kerry. And I too, assume it was probably the heavy rethug presence in NY that explains the response to M.Moore.

| 6. As I said in the other thread on this, the "boos" sounded quite recorded |
|
Later on, the studio audience was cheering for Moore.
The boos were to illustrate what happened that night they were talking about. That's how it seemed to me when I watched.

| 8. Same here. The boos really sounded like they were recorded. |
|
But Michael laughed anyway, boos or claps. When Dave asked him what he was going to do with the profits from F 9-11, Mike replied that he was going to use them to get * out of office. I heard a huge round of applause that time. I love that man! :) Heck, I love all three of them, Mike, Biff and Dave. :)

| 9. Yeah, agreed. Mike is not only quick and intelligent, he's also amazingly |
|
relaxed about stuff in that sort of setting, yet so clearly on his toes with all the issues. He seems to me to be more relaxed and easy-going than Jon Stewart, or any of the others. Just a difference in personality, and probably not from any effort on his part, but I find it quite intriguing.
I'm not the fan of Letterman that you are, but that's OK, too. :hi:
I think the boos were for effect, to highlight what had happened the night in question. I still think it was recorded, but it may have been the audience was being cued to boo. In any case, I don't think it was serious, booing for Mike. Dang, that's about as complicated as it gets...... :) I think it was all for effect because of the story they were talking about.
I could be wrong. I was once. :hi:
