| A conversation about wording Re: Taxes |
|
I hear a lot of conservative talk show hosts say that the rich pay 90% of the income taxes, or that the top 5% pay 95% of all income taxes. While they are technically right they are being dishonest because the average person does not know what payroll taxes are or that you stop paying social security at $85,000. So to say that the rich pay more in income taxes is being very disingenuous.
Can we turn that around? Can we say that the rich are paying a lower percentage of payroll taxes? Or that the rich are not paying their far share of Social Security? I guess it doesn’t matter because we don’t have a liberal talk show host that would be willing to say it, but if we did…
Well it was just a thought I had.
