Consider the once King of Cable, Larry King, now exclusively doing geezer programming(I could be one), their desperate swerve to the right, this recent embrace of a failed dirty trick, etc. How long can they exist if they continue down this pathetic road . I will celebrate each time I see their ratings sink. And I'm proud to say my clicker has not stopped on their number in more than a month. Whores

and MSNBC isn't going anywhere, and CNN started it all, so i doubt they're dying or will be 'dead' for a loooooooooooooong time, if ever.

are doing more harm to this country than even the bush administration.. because they are letting them get away with destruction of this country. I cannot believe that all these so called reporters of news are really this anti-American. I can see now how Germany went the way they did and the German people did nothing about it.

I don't believe they are really this right wing in their hearts.
So, to sell your belief system down the drain is the pits.

and their credibility. I don't see how they will make it in the long run.
Edit to add: They are making a classic mistake. Compete with their nearest competitor instead of trying to create new markets and seeing a larger picture. While they are competing with Fox and other RW outlets, another channel or news provider will come along and grab the rest of the market.

I don't think. Programming is supposed to attract viewers who attract advertisers. They are putting up the propaganda they want and in my opinion being kept afloat by the corporate mothership. Yes, there is still advertising but I really don't think this is what is funding the whole propaganda machine. They probably don't care that no one hardly is watching, just as long as newscasters like Dan Rather don't pollute their programming with old-fashioned journalism.
The truth is that in the old days the news wasn't supposed to generate profits anyway. Most of the TV stations of old, considered giving the public the news a civic duty of theirs. Even when Ted Turner launched CNN, it was a project of his to have a twenty four hour cable news channel and he didn't worry that much about profit. I don't know what changed because I haven't kept up with the story or why he sold out to Time Warner.

Trying to beat FAUX News at their own game (as MSRNC tried for a while, and arguably may still be trying to do) has only sent CNN's credibility and ratings into a downward spiral. They have become pretty worthless in my view. They have become simply a weaker, not quite as partisan but still untrustworthy, FAUX; acting as another echo chamber for the right-wing, with a plentiful supply of media whores- from Wolf Blitzer to Judy Woodruff to Candy Crowley to Robert Novak. Comparing their coverage of the RNC to that of the DNC confirmed beyond a shadow of a doubt that they have a right-wing agenda they are pursuing. CNN has basically become worthless... Crossfire is the only program they still run that presents both sides of an issue, but even it rarely goes beyond soundbites. Aaron Brown isn't a whore for the right-wing, but is still pretty status quo in terms of what he reports. The only reason to tune into Headline News is to catch an occasional glimpse of Rudi Bakhtiar:9; but since she only reads the news I have no clue what her political views are... and maybe I'm better off not knowing!

from seeing "Control Room". The doc about the Al Jazeera reporting on the early part of the Invasion..up and until Baghdad fell.
Now there's some reporting..and rummy and bush are in the mix (much to my chagrin)..fascinating, infuriating and very very sad.
It had the story of the Al Jazeera reporter who was bombed on the hotel roof. I'm sure we all remember that.
I recommend it, highly, to all.

| 16. Maybe CNN'll bottom out and Ted Turner & George Soros will buy them back |
|
CNN founder Ted Turner was once asked if he was planning to buy CNN back, but said he couldn't do it now even if he wanted to, because Steve Case's AOL Time Warner debacle demolished TWX's stock value, taking with it a HUGE chunk out of Turner's fortune. There's since been speculation that politically-progressive billionaire, George Soros, may be considering a plan to offer financial backing for a liberal news media venture. Maybe he can team up with Turner to take CNN back and remake it back into a truly "fair and balanced" news network?

It tells it all.
I remember when CNN was a REAL news network, and I keep hoping they'll one day wake up and get back to that -- real journalism.
Sadly, it is not likely to happen.
