| Are real journalists gone for good? Is parroting talking Pt's the new norm |

I'm having a hard time with the media's pack mentality and i know corporations have a huge hand in this. Will things ever swing back to something respectable or are we doomed to Animal Farm and 1984?

TV media are all corporate network executives.

| 9. I am unaware of either political party raising this as an issue |

What would anyone do?
Reinstating the Fairness Doctrine would be a start, but wouldn't solve the basic problem.
The US media collectively are corporate whores. Journalism has nothing to do with them, their jobs, or the agendas of their employees. Nothing.

for some peanuts and chips, my conure ( a real parrot) may get a job as a FOX announcer
Hey she is a good looking female (for a sun conure) and I am sure can be trained to repeat talking points (or just squak) on command.
If yuo put a news paper under her, she will even poop on command.
And yes this is the state of the media today

| 4. Unlike others around here, I don't fault you for |
|
observing something which could be construed as negative, thereby dooming our collective consciousness to a self-fulfilling armageddon.
With that said, considering what this limp ass media has reported and, more importantly, what they haven't reported, it's my opinion that real journalists are indeed gone--possibly forever.
Pardon the candor, but from all objective observations I'd say we're fucked bigtime!

| 5. Mainstream media employs PR flaks, not journalists. |

Want some "real" journalism? Listen to music, see a film or go to the theatre or an art gallery.
Get your "news" from the street ... and make damned sure you share what you know, too. We are on our own, people.

| 6. Unfortunately - a big part of this |
|
is the decimating of budgets for investigative reporters. Trim news staffs... use newswires instead of real reporting... and note how much more sells when the items are a scoop of sleeze...

| 7. Absolutely! It's all about $$ and ratings! |
|
It used to be that the news department was considered a cost of doing business at the 3 networks. Then cable came to be, and everything got very competative. They are all now considered as profit centers.
I'll be keeping my eye on CBS and the Dan Rathers story. I suspect, even though it is also sleeze, they will get some very good ratings out of this. Maybe it will get some other networks to really dig for some real stories too.
