| Just make a killing at a 2 for 1 sale. Why am I not happy? |
|
Edited on Mon Sep-13-04 01:09 PM by rocknation
There's a Kohl's department store down the road from my job, which has laid many of my paychecks to waste (I'd really like to have one those home arrest-type bracelets which would alert my bank if I go with 100 feet of one). I was in the market for some shirts, and one brand was having a 2-for-1 promotion. Cool! Then I notice that another brand of shirt was having the same promotion. Then I saw that you could buy two pairs of slacks or two jackets and get one free.
I also needed a belt, which required me to walk to the other side of the store. At least half of ALL the merchandise was buy one or two, get one free! Ordinarily, I would have had an orgasm on the spot, but it was actually kind of creepy. Then I realized why: It was the new FALL items that were on sale--it wasn't the tail end of a summer clearance! Is our economy THAT bad that retailers have to take a bullet on what should be their fastest-moving merchandise already? What the Cheney are they going to do when the holidays come and consumers don't have the optimism of Kerry going into the White House? (Sure enough, the belts were buy one get one free, too.)

after all the rebates and dealer give backs..
Tell me that car dealers are NOT hurting.. I am actually tempted to buy it for my hubby.. I have the cash and might even get it for less..His old truck is nickeling and diming us to death, but in reality, he doesn't even need the small truch he has, so I guess I won't surprise him.. The insurance and gas would cost too much anyway.. Sorry, Honey

....but I sure would hesitate about buying a big vehicle until I had time to read up on Peak Oil. Unless, of course, it's needed for work purposes. Come 2006, you might get one for pennies on the dollar.

Have you noticed the sales going on at auto dealers? "$5000 cash back plus an additional $2000 on 2004's!" Especially SUV's - they can't give them away. I have a friend who sells cars and he can't remember a year when they've had so many leftover model years. Between the economy and the gas prices, it's bad. But Bush tells us it's getting better. Yeah, okay....

not happy? Buying things to fill the void in ones life does not bring happiness. Just because there is a 2 for 1 sale, doesn't mean you need to take advantage of the sale and spend your money. If in fact you did need the clothing, that is one thing, but to just buy things because they are on sale or because it is a good deal is a waste of money. I do not mean to criticize, but you did ask an opinion.
You are quite right though...the economy is failing...we are being lied to by the Bush administration.
It's time to start saving your hard earned money, and only buy what you truly need.

| 4. 2 for 1 sale is deceptive in nature |

I think that the 2 for one sales are a sham to begin with. They overprice the items so that you can get a buy one get one free.
You are basically getting 25% off of the items but have to buy 2 times the amount.
Why didn't they just price the item at 25% off in the first place?
Famous footware has a buy 1 get one 50% off for most of the year. It means I have to buy 2 pair of shoes to get the bargin.
When I buy my work shoes during the sale, the shoes are marked at $40. If I buy 2 pair of those shoes, I pay $30 a pair.
When I go to buy my work shoes and the sale isn't going on, the shoes are priced at $20. If I buy 2 pair of those shoes, I pay $20 a pair.
It does remind me of a famous arguement my family had during 4th of july. They were deciding which fireworks display to purchase from: the one advertising BUY 1 get 1 free or the one advertising 50% off!

It's all them dammed marketing majors. Reducing us to target groups.....this is the same Bullshit they use on us in Washington. Focus groups, target groups, these people act this way when introduced to this... and these people act another way. Assholes, go to school for something useful, you are part of the problem.
