In the late 70's, early 80's, Stossel was doing a show with Barbara W. His assignment was to investigate professional wrestling. He came to the amazing conclusion that it was fake ("say it ain't so champ"). He was interviewing wrestling bad guy David Schultz (a real mean dude) and suggested the whole thing was a sham. Right on camera, Schultz hauled off and smacked Stossel in the head a couple of times. Down goes Stossel. Stossel got up and mouthed off again. Another smack from Schultz apparently did permanent ear damage; perhaps brain as well. How sweet it was!

I remember that. And I recall that before that incident he had been something of a consumerist. Brain damage or not, he seems to have been in an "I'm a victim" state ever since. This sense of self-victimization is at the core of a lot of right-wing rhetoric.
